Will steroid injections help?

I just had steroid injections in to my SI joint yesterday, with a little relief. I had lumbar surgery in April (L4-L5) and have had  extreme pain ever since. I feel worse than before surgery, My morphine and Dilaudid hardly helps. This was my 13th spinal surgery and I NEVER had more pain after any surgeries. Can someone let me know their experience with injections, or if any one had a surgery and now feel no relief? I am a newbie to this group... my cervical spine is fused C2-T1, and my lumbar is fused L1-S1. Been on disability since 2006 when I was a surgery assistant in a hospital. I would truly appreciate anything you can share regarding back and neck and still in pain.

Sounds like you have been thru hell. Well hell is a place I understand when it comes to pain. I have heard people say they love what the injections have done for their pain. For me, they helped a little bit after the 6th time getting them and then back to not helping at all. I stopped after 1 1/2 years because they were extremely expensive and were not providing any relief. Back pain and toothaches are two of the very worst things to suffer from (in my mind) and I. Truly hope you get better and find relief. Do u wear your back brace?

In addition to injections, I've had substantial pain relief from a procedure called a radio frequency neurotomy (or "RFN").  RFN deadens the nerves in the afflicted spinal area.  It's not permanent, so has to be repeated every yr or so, but it's only an outpatient procedure, takes less than an hr. (Seeing pain mgt doc after accident-related 6-level fusion - T10-L3.  Initial fusion surgery botched & had 2 fusion revisions.  Rods removed in 2nd revision surgery.)

I'm sorry that your pain is worse than before surgery. Are you wearing a back brace? You might want to talk with your surgeon and let him know whats going on. Remember you really have to take it easy, your still early in your recovery. Take care, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm writing to let you you are not alone I'm 3 days from a month after having a fusion and cage Put in I still have burning in left foot numbness in right leg above knee. I have pain across waistline and sore to touch. My back also locks up it hurts to walk at times and to stand up It makes me wonder If doctor didn't make me worse than I was because I'm not on disability buming money to pay bills. I know it sounds like I'm crying I'm not but I'm concerned. We need to stay prayer full that God is in control and he knows our issues My prayers are with you

Hello, All i can really say is that its still early in your recovery, but after that many surgeries I'm sure you already know that. The injections may take a few days to a week before you get any relief out of them. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.
