My husband had a nerve block for numb arms and neck and upper back pain.  It seemed to help him for a short time.  His pain soon returned.   As it turns out, he had High Blood Pressure and as soon as he started taking the appropriate High Blood Pressure medication his numb arms went away and so did the neck pain and upper back pain

Before we knew it was High blood pressure that was causing his problems, I had a Nerve Block for my Neck problems hoping it would take away my pain too.  Well something went terribly wrong in that procecure.. yes it's a simple procedure but.. now I have Chronic Intractable Pain, along with ruptured and herniated discs in my neck and I think in my upper spine too.  I don't know about my upper spine, I didn't have an MRI for the spine, just the Neck after the procedure.  It's all in my story on my home page.

My whole life is literally over, I can hardly move, I couldn't use my arms for one year after that simple procedure and can barely move them now.. Oh.. that simple procedure was just a year ago in September, 2008, this is 2009.

And you know what?  When the Dr. who did this to me understood that something went wrong, he Fired Me as his Patient.  Since then, no Dr who can do something to help me, WILL see me.  They are all afraid of being involved in some sort of law suit because they'll have to 'Out' another Dr..  they'll have to say what the cause of my current condition is!!  So.. no Dr will do anything.

My General Practioner Dr is the only Dr who is doing anything.  If not for her, I'd be dead now because she's giving me enough pain medication to live.  Chronic Intractable Pain like what I have.. happens when nerve roots are damaged.  That's what happened when that Dr did the   Nerve Block on me.    You think it can't happen here in the good old USA.. but it happens EVERY DAY!!!   Even when you have the BEST insurance.  I know, I live here, and I have GREAT insurance!

It's taken me a year to get back to using my arms, For months afterward, I could barely walk, I've had 9 months of being OUT OF MY HEAD with PAIN like few people on earth ever live through to tell about.

So, should you do a Nerve Block?  You take your chances.  If I had to do it over again, I would never have done it.   I wish I could let everyone know... Nerve Blocks are a scam, a fast way for Dr.s to make money.  Dr.s don't care if they help you or not, they're just in it for the bucks, folks.  If I had it to do over again, I would never have trusted those Dr.s, and I certainly wouldn't have gotten a Nerve Block, it destroyed my life completely without hope!  Left me a cripple with no way out.  I want to die every day because the pain is so unbearable, even with the vast amount of pain killers I'm on.   You are taking your chances if you have a nerve block, my friend, you could end up like me.

Maybe someone has had a good experience with a Nerve Block.  I don't know.

Michelle
