Pain radiating from left buttock

I am a 63 yrs old female.  I have had pain for 2 years now in the left butock area and have had various diagnoses. The pain is only a twinge during the day but when lying on either side I can intense pain in the buttock area.  It is so intense that I can hardly tell where it is coming from and pressing on the area does not reproduce the pain.  I have seen an osteopath who says it is a trapped nerve,  but not the sciatic nerve.  However, treatment sisn't improve the pain.  My own GP cannot find the cause and sent me to a specialist who arranged for me to have a hip x ray - result was normal wear and tear.  He then thought it may be the sacro-ileac muscle and I had a scan but it proved not to be this either.  Can you help please?

Please get examined by a neuro specialist. You may need an MRI of the lumbar-sacral area and an EMG. You could have either facet disease or a herniated disc pressing on a nerve root.

Possibly, you suffer someting wrong (soft tissue or disc injury) around L4/L5. so you should go to see doc for MRI scan in lower back.
Take care.
how about this pain in the morning? simply to say,if pain getting worse in the morning, probably is soft tissue injury,if  getting better in the morning, perhaps disc injury.

I also had the same syptom's you are describing but mine was both buttock's. I was diagnosed as having a fractured vertebrae and spine slippage. I looked around on the computer and found one of the symptom's of a fractured vertebra is pain in the buttock's. I tried epidural's and facet block's but didn't get any relief.I finally had a spinal fusion but I am to early in the game to know if the pain will ever leave.   April

Hey,
I know your pain I had an epidural and it has stopped all the leg and hip pain. GOOD LUCK nothing is worse than not being able to sleep at night because of pain.

Thank you for your comments.  The Pain is very bad when I lie on either side in bed for a time.  The pain is always there but its more just a niggle during the day. I have had a scan to see if it was the sacral ileac muscle that was inflamed but i was told that it was not that.  So in answer to your question, the pain is at its worst in the night when I lie on either side.  It seems to be pushing on the area if I lie on my left side and pulling on it if I lie on my right hand side.  It just goes on and on and on!
