Suddenly a lump appeared on the side of my neck in a matter of 2-3 hours?

Hello,

Suddenly a lump on my side of the neck appeared just where the lymph nodes are, and it's painful on touch. It's really strange as it appeared in 2-3 hours after gym (I was doing back and traps exercises with a bit heavy weights), also I did a bit of neck stretches as an exercise after that.

Right now, I am freaking out what can this be as it appeared so fast and it's painful on touch. It's in the size of peas bean and it can be felt just under the skin of the right side of my neck. Any ideas?

Thanks for the answer! I actually have been feeling a bit of pain in my throat in the past couple of days like when you get a cold and I am sneezing a bit. But that is it.

Thanks for the answer. I have an appointment with my doctor to take it into a further investigation.

This sounds like a swollen lymph node that comes from either a bacterial infection like strep throat, or a tooth abscess.

If its a tooth, you'll know soon enough as pain will become moderate to severe, and localized to the area around the affected tooth. See a dentist.

If it's strep, you'll soon feel other symptoms.

Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash, apply warm washcloth to the nodes, use tylenol for pain and fever. If it doesn't go away or manifest as a toothache in a few days, see your doctor.

Remember, gyms are dirty places  and locker rooms are ideal places for bacteria to grow. Learn good hand washing technique and take special precautions in flu season -- like wearing a mask.

Best wishes.
