pain in left upper leg

i have pain most nights in left upper leg (outer part of leg} which keeps me awake also pain in buttock too.
i also have a problem when i sit for any length of time and get up to walk, i have severe pain and have difficulty walking at first .again the pain is in the left upper leg and buttock and i'm bent over but once i get walking the pain seems to subside .i have to use a walking stick at times which helps ...
recently had an x/ray  everything seemed normal except for degenerative changes of lower lumbar spine ...
also had a ct scan conclusion was degenerative changes of discs especially at L3-4 AND L5-S1 LEVELS.
WHICH STATED NO SIGNIFICANT ABNORMALITIES TO ACCOUNT FOR THE OUTER LEG PAINS ???
would appreciate your suggestions for management or treatment ....thanks

I have pain, numbness in the outter muscle of the left thigh. Believe it is called meralgia paresthetica.  Have found Naproxen to control the pain which I take daily. Hope this helps.

Just because the Radiologist says that there are no significant abnormalities, doesn't make it so. The first course of action for something like this is generally Physical Therapy, have you been referred yet?
