What do these codes stand for?

I had my psych appt today and I was sent to the lab for a blood draw. I was handed a paper and told that if the lab asked what my diagnosis was it was right there and pointed to two numbers.

I am wondering if anyone can help me find out what these code for diagnosis means.

Why is it that paychiatric patients diagnosis mainly are not disclosed to the patient?

Anyways...there were two codes. one is 296.34 and the other is 299.34

If anyone can tell me what these mean I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for that info, if that is the case they must have made a mistake as I have no current or past history of alcohol abuse. I don't drink whatsoever.

At my next appointment I will try to get that clarified. Thanks again.

First is major depressive disorder and the second is an issue with alcohol abuse. You can look up those criteria online but they should inform you if you ask.
