Bilpolar medication

I have recently started taken Lamictal for bipolar disorder and am now up to 100 mg/day.  Since taking this dosage I have been troubled with intensive, vivid dreams seemingly most of the night and thus waking up tired.  Last night I took the medication 2 hrs before going to bed and it took a long time to get to sleep in bed due to racing thoughts.

My psychiatrist wanted me to take greater dosages of Lamactil on different occasions, and I have found that 50 mg. is sufficient for me. When I only take it, without an antidepressant, I can't feel any side effects.

I'd call my Dr. if this becomes disruptive to your sleep. Maybe they will prescribe a sleep aid to use temporarily or reduce your dose.

I take my lamactil in the evening, with dinner.
Good luck,,,

As everybody here knows, I am sure, Lactimal works for some people as a wonderful antidepressant. (I'm a new member so don't know how much discussion there has been about Lactimal.)

I've been taking Lactimal for four years, 50 mg in the morning. The only side effect I experienced was nearly complete elimination of the deep BP2 depressions I used to suffer. If something happens during the day to make me feel bad, I take another Lactimal. For me it works right away, almost miraculously.

Lactimal is not an antidepressant, it's an antiseizure med. It works best for people who don't respond to conventional antidepressants (and that includes many BP2s).

If depression is your problem, try taking it in the morning and at noon. It's hard to be depressed when you're sleeping, anyway.

Any of the meds can really affect your dreams when you first start taking them.  Give yourself a couple of months to adjust and see if they stop.  Unless they are too much for you, then go back and ask your dr to change meds.
