Bipolar Hypersexuality Meds

I have a 15 year old daughter who is currently on 300 mg Lamictal for BPD.  This covers her depression well, but she still has manic episodes with hypersexuality.  Does anyone have any experience with any meds that really helped this without totally zoning them out?

I would be more concerned about manic episodes in general than anything thing else
because those can really affect your jugdment to make safe or rational decisions.
I can't say specificly what would work for your daughter everyone is diffrent
but antiphychotics are commonly used to treat amnia and manic episodes.
Generally 15 is within the age group where all the hormones are going off in general (bipolar set aside) I've had bipolar since I was 11 but I know when I was that age I was in and out of manic alot and had a very high sex drive. Things may calm down as your daughter gets older. For now you need to educate her about safe sex, tell her about all the diseases she can catch and how they are transmitted ect ect and the risks and statistics involved with pregnancy she'll be more inclined to use birth control if she understands how serious complications can be and how easy it can be to catch something. You need to make sure she has condoms. some teens are afraid to buy them or some steal them (I guess
cuz they don't have spare cash or cuz they are too emabressed to buy that type of stuff from a store) at some places they keep them behind a pharmcy counter for this reason. Either way the whole thing can be a bit nerve wracking. You should clear all of this up with her have her go into a local grocery store or pharmacy and buy them. I know when I was her age I had to buy some for a freind who would not go in and get them herself she said if she couldn't get any she just wouldn't use one I walked to the gas station to buy them myself. I even had an incident myself where I went to buy condoms and the man behind the counter wouldn't sell them to me because of my age he told me the company was not allowed to for some reason I was 15 at the time. after that I was paranoid about buying them for awhile so I had older friend buy them for me.
If you know your daughter is sexualy active you should take her to get tested I wouldn't adivise planed parenthood tho they test for a few common diseases and its a bit more pricey. I know that I went to the free clinic in my area and they test for everything and they were very knowledgeable there it only cost us 6$ granted there was a wait but they also provided free birth control pills.
best of luck to you, hope my adivce helps

My understanding is lithium helps more with the mania than lamotrigine does. Lamotrigine is really good for bipolar depression.

On a side note. It may be very odd to do so but buying your daughter something like a vibrator may keep her out of trouble. She can't control the hypersexuality urges and if she doesn't have an outlet that is safe she'll go to the unsafe ones. It may also be a good idea to take her to a planned parenthood advisor so they can teach her about safe sex.

I don't envy the position you are in.
