Lamictal and laughter

I was diagnosed as Bipolar II after having been treated marginally for social anxiety and depression for 15 years. I withdrew from Paxil. I am slowly weaning from Klonopine while adding Lamictal. My beginning dose for one week was 25mg. This week, I am on 50mg. My racing thoughts have diminished as have confusion and rapid speech. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I am too happy. I worry that I am having mania. I have trouble controlling my laughter in public. I cannot stop once I start, and I have little or no real reason to respond in this manner. Will I level off? Can I continue to up dosage to desired therapeutic level of 150mg without going completely bonkers??!!
Thanks for any advice.

First time I tried Lamictal I laughed too. It was like my frontal lobe was on fire.
Everything was hysterical.
Too bad I didn't have a pencil and paper to write my zany thoughts!

Give yourself time to adjust to the Lamictal. I had a similar feeling when I first started taking it (it was just such a relief to not be so horribly depressed), but that has leveled off since then, and now I barely notice it. Talk to your doctor if it continues to be a problem.

I would give the Lamictal a chance. It should work once it reaches an appropriate dose. Occassionally at higher dosages Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania but it takes time and a psychiatrist has to see how they are responding in general. Keep a mood tracker here and print out the results for your psychiatrist and ask them to follow up.
