I think I have bipolar disorder!

Ok so I'm 15 and for several months, probably a year now I've been undergoing the symptoms of bipolar disorder. At first I didn't know what I was feeling or why I was feeling it.. I thought I was going through depression. But there were these long periods where I was actually very happy and very hyper.. So I knew I couldn't be completely depressed. I googled bipolar disorder and realized I had every symptom of this illness. Ive tried to tell my mom how I feel. She thinks NOTHING is wrong with me. She witnesses how I acts but still she refuses to do anything about it. Actually about 4 months ago she told me she was going to get me help while I was going through a depressive phase but she never did. 2 nights ago I tried to kill myself with a knife.. My mom walked in and caught me but she didn't do anything about the situation. I just don't get why she hasn't even tried to help me. My mom has depression and anxiety...ect. The both of us already know I have anxiety. She even thinks I'm anemic..I just don't know what to do anymore. I feel so hopeless like ill never get out of this up and down up and down stuff. Please tell me what to do.

But you really need to talk to someone soon. Your mom is probably in denial. Trying to kill yourself or even considering it is something that warrants addressing.

I agree with what Pamela says. At your doctor visit, if they don't suggest a thyroid test you suggest it. A lot of times what you're describing can be a thyroid disorder. Self diagnosing is not good. When you go to the doctor make sure you tell him/her what is going on with you objectively and try not to tailor your symptoms into what you think you've got. It's easy to do when you've researched it. You know what bipolar disorder looks like and you may try unconsciously to present yourself that way so take extra care to let them diagnose you. If you have it, it isn't the end of the world. You can flourish and grow. If you don't have it,,you really don't want it.

Hello. Welcome to MedHelp.
If you are anemic you'll need to eat a more balanced plate at every meal. Protein is important & a pretty good source besides fish & meat is beans.
Now that it is winter break. You may need to go to your school councilor
in a few days in Jan. Tell them how you feel, the things that make you feel bad as well as things that make you feel good.
If you & your mom belong to a church, the Minister may make some time for you to have a private appointment . Tell him what you were doing with that
Knife.please stop doing things like this. You should be seen by a Doctor.
Diagnosing ones self with Bipolar is not realistic. This is the work of a Psychiatrist.   I understand you took the time to read & study this disorder.
Believe me, you will thank the stars above that you do not have such a serious disease.   I understand you are unhappy when depressed. That's something about life we all need to learn to deal with, even if we don't have a disorder.  Get busy in your life. If you love dogs, volunteer at the animal shelter. Learn to help your mother more to ease her burden .
Decide what classes you'd like to take in school. Do they offer sewing?
Have you an interest in designing clothes? Get some clothes at the Thrift Store & make something new. Does your school offer art class? Watch TV art classes and practice painting.    Keep posting. Pamela
