crazy or normal/lamotrigine

Hi

It's monday morning in Cairo now

I decided to take an MS like normal BP. So a gentleman here advised lamictal and my new pdoc too. I am now convinced. Since I am very sensitive to drugs my pdoc said I can start on an infantile doze of 4mg in 2 tablets a day each of 2mg chewable. So starting saturday afternoon i took 2mg in the morning and at night another 2mg. I slept rather bad although I am on:

1mg risperidone
25mg seroquel
2mg stellazin
0.375mg xanax
(i take risperidone and seroquel at night)

Yesterday (sunday) I did the same took 2mg in the morning and 2mg at night but i didn't sleep at all in the night. So do you think

1. increase seroquel to 50mg again
2. or take lamictal 2mg morning and
    2mg noon
3. or take ONLY 2mg in the
   morning/daily

Suppose i choose  (3) will this be safe withdrawal?

apparently it's axtivating. I am not depressed but very tired tired from not sleeping
pls advise me
ezz

Lamictal takes an extended period of time due to the slow rate at which the dose can be raised for it to be fully effective. Once it reaches a proper dose (as determined by a psychiatrist) it can remain at that dose and keep a person stable for a long period of time like any other medication. I know that was my experience as was other people's.

Hi
thank you for your response. Can you iterate more that you felt well then relapsed the 4th day. i.e. can it releave depression after a few days then suddenly you are depressed again with the same dose so you have to raise the doze again. If this is correct what i understand does this apply to all AC or lamictal only or what, because for my antipsychotics i don't have to raise the dose because they function with the min dose

You have to slowly go up on the Lamictal due to Stephen Johnson Syndrome... 2mg seems like a really low dose for an adult but.. your doctor knows you...

My daughters experience with the Lamictal is she HAS to take it at night because it makes her so sleepy. She currently takes 100mg.. has been as high as 200mg... Talk to the PDOC about how to adjust the time you take it. I would think that all in the morning would not be an issue- unless you can't tolerate it.

>>>be patient. You won't see an effect from Lamictal until it reaches 150 mg

On the contrary from the instant i took the 1st 2mg and i became fine and depression gone. except i think 4mg/day is much for me as it makes me alert and stronger can do effort, so perhaps i should lessen it though the pdoc advised 8mg/day and it's me who started by 4 only fearing the rash. Now i think even 2mg infantile is enough for me. it's crazy i heard people take up to 400. But people vary. So it isn't that it doesn't work and i should be patient, rather it's the opposite which i feel i should reduce it to 2mg/daily only

Only a psychiatrist can give specific medical advice but what I can tell you is that when I tried chewable Lamictal it didn't work and the standard pills did. Perhaps you could ask your psychiatrist about that. And be patient. You won't see an effect from Lamictal until it reaches 150 mg. and as you know there is a specific titration schedule (I'm sure your psychiatrist has told you this) for raising the dose. Discuss it further with them but I'd say give Lamictal a chance but before you change anything ask them. Please. Seriously.

I forgot to tell you it removed my depression right away, sunday beginning of work i worked like a devil corrected many mistakes, concentrated in my work and my boss gave me a bonus and was happy all day through. I started to think that God put me on the right track and my mind started to see things as they are. I met some old school mates in the afternoon. My father said perhaps i was exited. But i feel that 4mg lamictal is big for me. Can i cut it to 2mg only without difficulty. I took an extra xanax now and 25mg seroquel to try to sleep i am not going to work today. very bad. Is this side effect.

I said no depression but tired from not sleeping. GIVE me a CLUE pls
thanks
