i need help and i need it fast!

someone i know has had large problems in life and everything around him, we see a doctor because they keep tellin us hes bipolar I psychosis, but i dont believe this crap, he takes his meds but nothing works but his zolft and serquil for his paranoia, ive had one doctor tell me she things he may have a "dramatic and erratic" personality disorder and i agree with her but hes not borderline, i keep tellin my self he isnt a malignent narcissistic but i just dont know, here are his main symptoms
thinks about him self
starves for control
crys when no one looks
is depressed but wont tell anyone or own up
his hyper sensitive to negitive feed back
tell others its there fault and we should treat him like he is perfect
is extremely sexual with his "boyfriend"
gets symptoms like the flu and becomes withdrawn when he cant be the center of atten.
has a history of poly substance abuse
has anxiety to the point of blacking out or passing out, the state forbids him to drive
has a history of sexual and emotional abuse, and i his mother beat him as a child due to PMDD with psychosis
his father died at 53, he was 12
i have passive aggressive personality disorder
i need help not just for him but for all of us, he is slowly killing him self
i dont know what to do or what he could have

He needs to stay on his Seroquel and Zooloft.  I take Seroquel for Bipolar 1 with psychosis.  He would do so well if he went to a therapist or group suport meetings.  Have his psychiatrist recommend these things for him and make him go.

I totally agree with the advice given by Ilavocate, therapy and seeing a second physc-doc would be worthwhile.  Perhaps he would respond better to other medications, perhaps they need to be tweaked.  It may take awhile but with therapy and medications combined, it should make a difference.  If he is suffering from BPD, it can take years of intense therapy and some of the symptoms can be "out grown" over time. as an adult with more life experiences.  Best of luck to both of you and God bless.

Personality disorders such as bpd (and the others, many of which are quite rare) don't just require medication but also cognitive behavioral therapy (for bpd, dbt therapy is known to be quite helpful). If the person's psychiatrist is not helpful it might be worthwhile to seek a consult to a specialist in this area.
