Has anyone had problems conceiving after NORAPLANT?

When I was 18 I got pregnant withmy first child. I gave birth to him when I was 19. 3 weeks after giving birth to my son I became pregnant with Twins. I made it to my 4th month of pregnacy in which sadly I miscarried. The doctor recomended I gaev my body some time to rest. and Offered Noraplant. he said It could be removed  when ever I felt at a later date.  Well After 1  year of 80 lb weight gain  and migraine headaches  I went to my doctor and told him of my syptoms. He prescribbed IBprofen for the migraines and sent me on my marry way.  Well for the remainder of the year I went back and forth complainingof the pain in my arm and the headaches and the steady weight gain. Finally 2 yeas and 3 months later they removed the noraplant in a painful way. I felt like they where cutting my arm off.
Any way I finally got the noraplant removed in 1997 I was told it would only take a short time for me to get pregnant they said it would be 6months - 1 year.
DUring this time The weight gain jumped another 40 lbs  and and the migrains have been on and off alot less from before. My last pregnancy ended in Miscariage again.
ANd in 2001 I had to have my right OVARY AND FALLOPIAN tube removed due to cysts.

HAS any one gone through any of this? or something of this sort? Is there a class action suit? If any one has gone through this have they had a baby  healthy following this?

i had the norplant put in after my 1st son was born in 1992, i got married in 95, we wanted a baby so i went and had it removed, the dr broke one of the rods and told me he got it all, and that i would get pregnant right away, it took a lil over a year and i finally did, but i can still feel a piece of what feels like the rod he broke in my arm, i too have suffered from alot of the sytoms i'm hearing on here, i went back to the same dr about what i feel in my arm and he told me it wasnt the broken piece. i had another son in 2000, and he was born with one side of his body somewhat bigger than the other, at the age of 6 months he was giagnosed with liver cancer, i been wondering so much if what i still feel in my arm is a pc of the norplant that the dr broke off. it has moved lower down my arm, and i think it is time to have my arm looked at  any suggestions plzz i would appreciate any feedbacks. i also wonder that if it is a pc of the norplant could that be what caused my son to have the problems he has endured!

This is getting me scared the more. after reading all the above comments.
I had mine inserted in December 2007 after having my daughter. this year i felt i was ready to have my second child and went to have the Norplant rods removed in February. thankfully i did not have major side effects like weight gain though i experienced severe mood swings and did not have my periods for a full year. I always had a regular 28 day cycle before Norplant but now its between 21-24 days.Signs of ovulation are present but this is my 6 month of trying still nothing as yet.
Norplant is sure not the best.

I have all the same symtoms!! I did have a son after the Norplant was removed but had to have minor surgery to remove scared tissue from my falopian tubes. I was not able to conceive a second time and now i'm too old to try.

Headache and cheast pain still continue, weight gain is out of control!! And to top it off my arm just recently started hurting and i found out that the doctor left one stick in my arm. Would love to sue!! I called him to let him know he left it in and he pretty much told me he doesnt doo that anymore .... so i guess i'm left to pay for the removal of the piece he left in my arm. GREAT!!  WHERE IS THE LAWYER???

I had Norplant inserted at age 20 after my first child. 2 yrs later had it removed because I was constantly bleeding and was put on birth control pills. Thought it was rediculas to be on both. I then tried to concieve a second child it took two horrendous years with two misscarrages. I then had some trouble the first trimester was bed ridden for those three months. I now have 4 children . But have never had a regular period since they are always 14 days or more very frustrating!

I had my norplant inserted 6 weeks after my son's birth in 2007 and I was 22yrs old. soon after I started having abnormal periods that would last for weeks and since then I have gained about 30kg and struggle with my weight no matter how much I exercise or eat right it just wont come off. In Dec 2009 I went to my doctor to get it removed, the process was painful and one of the rods could not be found its still somewher in my arm but my doctor assured me that it would not work on its own, since then I have been trying for a second child and just cant seem to conceive. I'm in Zimbabwe and my doctor has advised me to go for a scan to try and locate the rod and if cant remove it I will have to opt for an operation of which am very scared coz have never been operated on my whole life. I am so angry because now I have to live with the after effects of a norplant which doctors nevr tell you truthfully about, Iam now over weight and still have abnormal periods and am now scared of not being able to concieve again. I so much wanted a second child but its just not happening.

I used norplants for 7 years. the first set was removed after the 5 years and a second set put in...after another 2 years I had weight gain and problems with my health and my doctor suggested I get them removed.  They could not get them out at first and after two attempts they were removed but there was some nerve damage to my arm and I have no feeling down the one side of my arm to my hand.  My husband and I tried to have a baby but we had 6 micarriages.  I then did some research and discovered that it made my body extremely low on progesterone.  I took the information to my obgyn and he proscribed progesterone to me and I used it according to his directions for two month and found out I was pregnant..I continued using the progesterone until the 12th week of pregnancy and went on to delivering a healthy baby.  We again tried later and did the same with the progesterone and was able to have another child.  Norplants make your body unable to produce progesterone on its own and without it the baby cannot implant correctly and the pregnancy will be lost.  I do not know of any law suits with Norplants being help responsible for miscarriages.  If anyone has any information about any lawsuit I would be very interested in hearing about it.

about a month after I had my daughter in 1999, I had the Noraplant inserted in my arm.  Right from the start, I had complications.  Bleeding, cramping, vomiting, that sort of thing.  I only had it in for a year and asked the doctor to take it out.  Even with the Noraplant removed, I still had problems.  The cramps, vomiting, bleeding kept getting worse and worse.  It became like clock work.  Week 1, I would have my cycle, which was very heavy had to change every hour, Week 2, I would get the double over cramping and vomiting every 20 minutes for that week, at the end of week 2, I would have to go to the hospital to get rehydrated, because I was so lethargic and passing out because I couldn't hold anything down.  Well, this went on for about 4 1/2 years after the Noraplant was removed.  My doctor kept telling me that I had IBS, and I kept telling him no there was something wrong.  Well, finally he referred me to a specialist.  Turns out that the estrogen that is found in the Noraplant caused Uterine Fibroids to grow in my uterus.  The Fibroids had gone so long that the doctors couldn't do anything about it.   And so, in May of 2004 at the age of 23 years old I had to have a hysterectomy.  The surgeon showed me a picture of what was once my uterus and it passed a six inch ruler by about an inch.  The only thing I have left are my ovaries.   I tried calling lawyers, but the "Statutes of Limitations" had run out for me by about 3 months I think it was.  I know that I can't do anything about my situation now, but I just hope that my situation will help someone else who may be going through the same thing that I went through.

Hello ladies I have been researching this noraplant, this is a world wide problem, their are so many victims around the world. Doctors are afraid to speak the truth because we were there geeney pigs and they  have made lots of money from the government by promoting this as a safe birth control. I for one, am very damn angry. I wish the table could be turned.  I guess we all  have to connect and sue these health facilitity's;. It is amazing how many females are unaware of the symptons and pain this thing causes to your life. Every doctor I approach decline to take me has a patient to remove my noraplant. And the government has made laws to try to prevent women from suing the clinics or doctors that have placed this products in our arms.  I pray that I get help soon, this is so stressful, and I want a child so bad, so please do your research, I beg you!  I placed my email in the my profile but they won't show it. ***@****  I am blogging every chance I get Hell Yes I am Bitter about this,  so please pass this information on . If anyone can relay information to me as to how to get this out of my arm please help me, two one four, four, seven six, eight six seven four any time . I believe and helping anyone I can because God will bless me and it is time we take a stand!  Thank You and Unity is POWER!

I had Norplant inserted into my arm years ago, twice.  I no longer needed it because I got my tubes tied. That was about 7 years ago.  In the past years I have been having really bad pains in my left arm where they were.  I feel really bad all the time.  Memory loss.  Hard time concentrating.  Chest pains (they can find nothing wrong).  If anyone knows what to do, please let us know.

I had my first child in Feb. of 91, I was 17.  I had Norplant put in when he was two. I got married in 93 and a year later had it removed to try to have another child.  I have had periods as painful as my labor pains with my son ever since.  I have had Laprascopic surgery and in 07 was pregnant but it was ectopic and ended up having a complete c-section because it ruptured my tube.  Now I'm about to get remarried and it looks like our only option is invitro but I'm not even sure if I can carry it to term. My only son passed away when he was almost nine and now at 36, my time is running out. If there is anyone out there..............help.

It all makes sense to me now. I was 16 when I had my daughter in 1990, in 1991 I had norplant put in and had it taken out in 1998. Ive been trying to have another child every since then and nothing!!  Ive been to many doctors that said noting is wrong with me ive been poked prodded and scraped and still nothing.  I know that this is a result of the norplant I have 4 other siblings and they have had NO problems having children.  this is very disheartning to me i am now 35 and the only hope i have now is that my 20 yr old daughter will have some children.

Well, I got my first Noreplant in May 2004, I had a long period of like 6 weeks. After that, no period at all and no complaints. In April 2006, I had it removed cause I wanted to get pregnant. Sure enough I conceived the following month and gave birth to baby boy in February 2007. June 2007 I got my second one and had it removed in December 2009 to get pregnant again. I do not know yet if I am pregnant... Will find out soon.

At the age of 22 I visited Planned Parenthood to have the Norplant inserted in me in 1994, which was 6 mos after my only child was born.  It was not only to prevent another pregnancy at the time but to regulate my periods in which I always had problems since my first menstrual flow at the age of 15.  I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 16 weeks along.  After about 4 years I was advised to have the Norplant removed by a new ob/gyn due to the return of symptoms involving my period.  There were major complications when it was removed because one of the capsules had traveled down my arm.  Thankfully, they were able to locate it & remove it.  Though, I have ugly scars as a result.  My mother, who's career has always been as a teaching chemist at a hospital (now for over 40 years) & who is usually "immune" to "bloody" situations, panicked for the first & only time when she saw how much blood I lost in the procedure.  Following the procedure I continuously bled for over a year. My doctor then diagnosed me with endometriosis solely based on my symptoms.  I'm now in my second marriage & I am trying to have another child for the first time.  Since then I have had a few miscarriages & ovarian cysts.  It's been said by my new ob/gyn (although again not verified) that I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I'm starting to wonder if I'm able to conceive another child.  I have not been on birth control pills for over a year & still suffer extremely heavy periods with severe pain but I don't want to give up trying to conceive.  My husband's first wife did not want to have children while he always did.  My doctor doesn't seem to want to take the time to find out if there is anything wrong with me except by encouraging me to keep taking birth control pills to control my symptoms.  I am now in my late 30s & my husband & I feel time is running out.  I really hope I don't have to go to a fertility clinic just to find out if I'm still able to conceive.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
(Also, I was always under the impression that my ex-husband was the reason I had trouble having children during our 12 yr relationship at the time when we were ready to conceive, since he had severely injured one of his testes, thus, our daughter was a "miracle child;" apparently I was wrong since he has now successfully had two more children in the last 3 years, so this has also been a "wake-up call" to me.)

In 1993 after having my 2nd child  my doctor suggested the Noraplant contraceptive.  My husband and I believed it was the best choice for us.  I finally had it removed in January of 2000.   I had the implant for 2 years past the removal date, mainly because no doctor in my area ,not even the office that placed it, would even see me for a 2nd visit when they found out about my problems.  My family believed “it was all in my head” when I would complain about the arm pain and heavy bleeding.   For 7 years I suffered blackouts, migraine headaches, violent mood swings, depression, extremely heavy  & pain full periods, ( worse than the bleeding after giving birth) hair loss, and terrible arm pain especially during my period.  I also went from a slim 110 pounds the weight at the time of my surgery to a very frustrating 220+ pounds.
This was the upside, because the implant was in for so long,  my tissues grew around them.  I believe this or the removal of the implants cause nerve damage in my left arm.  I suffer from shooting pains and often lose feeling in my hand. I also tend to just drop things when I am holding them.
Shortly after the implants were removed  I did become pregnant with my 3rd child.  But my troubles were not over,  I suffered bleeding and was hospitalized at least 8 times.  Instead of gaining weight I went from about 217lbs to 116lbs when my daughter was born.  I  don’t have epilepsy, no one in my family does, but suffered seizers while pregnant and was tested for epilepsy 3 times.  My blood pressure was outrages while pregnant also, I was hospitalized 3 times because of it. My baby was born at 28 weeks.  My pregnancy was probably the scariest time of my life, but I made it threw it. My daughter  Terrace is now 8.  My husband and I believe she is a gift from GOD and we decided for my safety not to try to have any more children.
I still suffer  from this procedure  some 15 years later.  I never even heard about a lawsuit or anything until now.   My heart goes out to everyone who has and will post here.  You are all in my prayers.

I am now wondering  if my complacations with have a normal prenancy are from the noraplant. any information would be greatly appreciated.
