Mirena IUD

I have a 3yr old son and a 9 month daughter that I am breast feeding. I was thinking about getting the Mirena IUD but I'm nervous about it. Have any of you ladies used it before? What were your experiences? Also, I know it's effective for 5yrs, but can it be taken out early? Because I really only want it for 3 years at the most, but I'm looking for a hormone-free birth control (other than condoms). Also, what was the return to fertility like after it was removed? Thanks in advance!

I've had the Mirena and Paraguard (copper IUD) I will never recommend them to anyone. They had horrible side effects, mood swings, constant nausea, stomach cramps, ovarian cysts etc.

Mirena is a hormonal Iud and can be removed earlier that the five years it's good for. I had it for a while and I hated it. I had the worst migranes, mood swings, my hair was falling out, my cramps during my menstrual were unbearable, my weight was up and down even though my diet and exercise routine stayed constant, when i had sex with my husband it was painful, and there were days where it felt like it was slipping out so it was very uncomfortable. The only good thing was I never got pregnant and was able to get pregnant less than a month after getting it removed.

I had it for five years and didn't have any problems with it! I got it removed in March and two weeks later got pregnant I'm now 24+4

Mirena is hormones. It tricks your body into thinkin you are pregnant, and because of that i developed PCOS and POF. I hated it. You can take it out in 6 months if you want but if you want non hormonal then check out the copper IUD or something along those lines. Good luck.
