Ovulation Confusion

I had my mirena removed on June 1, 2009 bc my husband and I are ready for baby #2.  It took 6 1/2 weeks to finally get my 1st post mirena period.  I got it on July 16, it was normal flow, lasted about 3 days.  Now I am hoping and praying my body is back on track.  I was watching my ovulation calendar and when I was "supposed" to ovulate, that entire week my husband and I were having plenty of sex.  Yesterday, I noticed white discharge and I have read that it can be a sign of ovulation... but during the week that I was supposed to ovulate, I saw that same discharge, especially after having sex.  Did I miss ovulation? I will be really bummed, we really want our second baby!

If I am on schedule, I should be due for a period the 13th of August... hopefully it does not come and I get a positive HPT.  When should I test? Should I wait until I miss it?

Hello,
I can understand your concern and hopes.Pre and post ovulation, the cervical discharge is a bit different. The first cervical discharge that appears just before ovulation is moist, sticky and white or cream in color. In the finger test, the mucus will break easily and you will only be able to pull your fingers about 1 cm apart before it breaks.Subsequently, the mucus becomes thicker and greater in volume. During ovulation the discharge is egg white mucous and is pale in color and stretchable. Post ovulation, the discharge is thick and not so sticky. If you have noticed white discharge after ovulation, then it can be due to mistiming of ovulation on your behalf or hormonal changes during menstrual periods. Actually cervical mucus probably isn’t the most reliable indicator of pregnancy. So if you are trying for pregnancy then ovulation predictor kits which are readily available in the market can be used.

Regarding the ideal time for confirming the status of pregnancy by urine for pregnancy test(UPT),the most accurate way to test for pregnancy is to wait until after your period is due. First appearance of pregnancy hormone, HCG, due to implantation occurs 6-12 days after ovulation. So if you don’t want to wait for your periods and test for pregnancy then you can test at 9 or 10 days past ovulation with a sensitive ( 20 - 25 mIU ) pregnancy test.Aimstrip pregnancy test gives good results and can detect 20 mIU of HCG.I sincerely suggest you to do a urine for pregnancy test and if the test comes negative, then please wait for your periods and repeat the test after 1 week of your missed periods date.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Warm regards.

I took a test (well 2) and they both came back positive.  It only took one cycle.  We are very happy!

I to am in the same boat. I had my mirena removed 7/9/09. I had my period 7/11/09 or at least what I thought was. It lasted the 5 days(normal). And now I should start tomorrow, which I pray it misses me. We really want another child, but I really could not tell my ovulation this month, it seemed like it happened 3 times. So I am very confused. I took 2 HPT which all three were BFN.
