Query about bloating and never ending period with IUD

Hi - i am currently waiting to have some more tests and see my doctor about this but am quite worried so wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience. I've had my nova-T IUD for 2 years now. the first year was fine (aside from very heavy bleeding when it wast first put in). since then my belly has slowly been swelling - almost like im pregnant (which i am most definitely not). over the past 5 or 6 months its steadily been bloating more and more (but never goes down). it is totally disproportionate from the rest of my body and i havent gained weight anywhere else. in addition to this my cycles went haywire. i was having periods every 2 weeks, then every week, and now have had a period that has been going on for over a month now. i now have constant low level period pain that feels like i have strained my back and leg muscles. and my belly doesnt feel like it belongs to me it's really weird. i am really anxious to know if this happened to anyone else? what was the outcome? im presuming something is wrong with the coil and it's moved or something but im worried that simply having it removed wont fix whatever's wrong or causing the swelling in my belly. i couldnt find any similar posts. would really like to know anything! thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Excessive amount or duration of menstrual flow, at more or less regular intervals is called menorrhagia. Sometimes it is associated with polymenorrhea(Frequent flow, cycles of ≤21 days)Causes of menorrhagia are Hypothyroidism, Endometrial proliferation or hyperplasia like ovarian tumor and polycystic ovarian disease, endometrial polyps and neoplasia, endometriosis, fibroids and uterine sarcomas.

In my opinion you need to get your pelvic examination done from your gynecologist along with investigations like complete blood count, thyroid function tests, PAP smear and ultrasound uterus.Once cause of menorrhagia is identified, treatment can be planned.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I had similar symptoms with the nova-T IUD too, my doctor always attributed my symptoms to the IUD... five years later and I find out I have cysts and likely endometriosis. Definetly get checked out ASAP.

Thank you Bhupinder (Dr Kaur). That was really helpful and also reassuring in lots of ways. I posted in here because I know something is wrong. I have had a PAP smear now and have another appointment to see my GP on wednesday and hopefully she'll refer me to a gynaecologist then. The pain has gotten worse this week and if possible i am even more bloated than when I wrote the post. My abdomen is more bloated and i just seem generally 'puffy'. I know you cannot diagnose anything but would you expect extreme fatigue with the sorts of things you mentioned? I forgot to say in my first post that for 2/3 months now i can hardly function.
thank you again for your post. Like I said it was really reassuring that you feel my symptoms add up to the same things (even though they are serious things) that i was thinking about. I will indeed let you know how I get on. Thanks again.
