Should I be getting my period again?

I have been on a birth control pill for a few years now and like I'm meant to, if I get spotting for 3 days I stop the pill, let myself have a period and then start the pill
again after 3 days. So this happened about two weeks ago now so I did everything like I normally would, started taking the pill again etc. About 3-4 days of being back on the pill I started getting bad cramps and spotting again. I have continued taking the pill thinking it will just go away but it hasn't and it has been a week now. I never get my period after just finishing it straight away, it usually comes about every 2-3 months. Any ideas on why? Thanks!!!

You have been taking your pill completely wrong and it's no wonder you keep having problems. The pill is meant to be taken every day regardless of whether you have spotting or not. When you start and stop the way you've been doing, not only are you nullifying the pregnancy protection of the pill, but you are also seriously confusing your hormones which has been and will continue to cause many problems with irregular bleeding as well as other side effects.

If you're going to be on the pill, you must take them as directed, which means taking one every day no matter if you're having spotting or not. And if you'd read the directions that came with the pack, you would have seen that spotting is the most common side effect from being on the pill and happens to everyone sooner or later.

You've caused this bleeding problem by not taking your pill properly. I strongly suggest you keep taking your pill, correctly, and just deal with the bleeding until it settles down. It might take some time until your hormones settle down from all the stopping and starting you've been doing but it will settle down eventually. And if you can't handle taking a pill every day, there are plenty of other options available for birth control that would be better suited.

I was advised by my doctor to stop the pill if I ever got spotting for more than three days. Although you aren't meant to get your period on the pill you still need to have it every 3 or so months. It also says on my directions that you need to stop it for three days if spitting occurs for three days.
