What should I do about my breakthrough bleeding?

I started taking Azurette birth control 3 weeks ago when my period first started and it hasn't stopped ever since. Something doesn't sit right with me about this. The only reason I'm taking birth control is to stop my heavy flow and irregular cycle, so this shouldn't be happening. My current flow isn't too heavy, but definitely not spotting. My GYN says it's normal but Idk...please help.
