In between bleeding while on Microgestin Fe 1/20

I have been on Microgestin Fe 1/20 for a little over a year now and I haven't had any problems until a few months ago when I started having in between bleeding several times in a month. It was completely unpredictable and comes and goes constantly. I thought maybe at first it was because I was purposely skipping my period by going from one pack to another without taking the placebo pills because my doctor said it was okay to do so. Now I'm thinking maybe that's not so okay and it's messed with my cycle. Now I'm in my last week of active pills and have been bleeding for almost a week. It hasn't been extremely heavy but heavy enough to be more than spotting. It also started out more of a brownish color and now it's turning to more of a red, fresh blood color. I'm just concerned and annoyed with how this has been happening and I just want it to go away!

Thank you for your help!

I'm currently on microgestin 1.5/30 and I take it continuously and consistently, meaning I don't break for a period. Two weeks ago I had break through bleeding for about four days, last week was normal and today, break through bleeding again. It's a lot heavier than typical spotting that lasts about a day. Any suggestions, tips, or recommendations??

You may need to go up to the purple pack.  I was on the green pack, which I believe is the Fe 1/20, but I had break-through bleeding right away.  Once we upped the dosage by going to the purple pack, I was fine and have been fine for years now.

I was on it for over a year and had the same problem!! My doctor ts me it's a very common side effect with this pill. She switched me to Cryselle 28 and I have no spotting anymore! Good luck :)
