I have taken another HPT, wich was also negative.  I'm worried it mayb something a little more serious so I have booked myself an appointment at my local doctor.  Thanks you for your help!

You took a test and it was negative and you took emergency contraception after unprotected sex so I"m sure you're not pregnant. EC is very reliable and 16 hours is definitely enough time to have it be effective. (Basically it prevents implantation from happening) Did you take Plan B or something else? Your period was most likely short from coming off of the pill. Also, because you were on the pill for 5 years you probably don't exactly know what your "normal" period will be.  If you are very worried, you can get a blood test done or just take another HPT.
