The first pack of Microgynon 30..

I recently started taking Microgynon 30 as a second method of contraception, but to also help with my painful periods. So far it seems to be going well, I've had no side effects at all but I guess it's early on and I can't really tell for now until I get further on in the packet. I'm aware that if I have sex without a condom I'm at risk of STD's and still at risk of pregnancy, however I wouldn't continually have sex without a condom, this would literally be a minimal amount of times, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm mature for my age, and I wouldn't put myself at risk of STD's or pregnancy, my partner and I have been checked for STD's and we both came back negative, so we're okay on that front, but we both feel that sometimes that we would like to have sex without a condom. I'm still unsure about a few things, and I thought this would be the best place to get some answers.

A few questions I'd like to ask:
1. When is it "safe" to have sex without a condom?
2. Does Microgynon 30 completely relieve period pains?
3. My periods only lasted 3 days naturally, how long will they last whilst on the pill?
4. If I have sex without a condom and I've taken my pill at the same time every day and not missed one, what are my chances of being pregnant?
5. If I do suffer from any side effects, how long will it take for them to settle down?
6. Is it true that you will definitely gain weight whilst on the pill, or does this vary from person to person?

Any answers will be much appreciated!

Thank you for your reply again,

I made sure that I cleared things through with my doctor beforehand because I just wanted to make sure that I'd be okay, I just generally wanted some personal responses from people that have used it.

Thanks again

Good to hear. Some people just don't ask any questions and things get all messed up...so I just wanted to make sure you asked your doctor as well. Like I said...everything will vary. Some pill users have no problems...and others, well it takes a bit of time to adjust on the pill.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply!

I asked my doctor these questions but I just generally wanted some personal responses, that's all. I've heard that a lot of people have had problems, and was just wanting to know those.

1. You do not have any safe days of your cycle. Just because you are on a period or close to it does not mean there aren't risks of getting pregnant. You should be using a back up at this point because you only started the pill. Also, the pill is not 100% effective...no birth control is for that matter.
2. I do not know if the pill you are taking will relaive you from all the pain you have during your cycle. You most likely will have some cramping, but other then that I am not sure. I do not think any pill is effective enough for getting rid of all pains during the cycle...but it should be less pain then while off.
3. There is no way of telling how long your periods will last while on the pill. Sometimes bleeding can be worse depending on how well your body takes affect of the medication. I take Yasmin and went from lasting two weeks to now 3 days of spotting. It varies.
4. There are always chances of getting pregnant on the pill. it has happened to many women before. If you are truely scared of becoming pregnant, use a backup protection.
5. The norm is about 3 months is when your body should be well adjusted to the pill. Some suffer no side affects, while others have every side affect. It depends on how well your body adjusts to medications.
6. Not everybody gains weight while on the pill. It again, depends on your body and how well you adjust to medications. And some birth controls are worse like the Depo Shot (DO NOT EVER GET). That one can have side affects up to a year and really bad bleeding.

Ok, I've answered all your questions. My advice to you is that you really should have asked your doctor all these questions piror to starting this pill. I have heard mixed reviews on the pill...some say its great while others had allot of problems with it.
