Books as gifts

I give books instead of cards for birthdays and holidays.  I put a book plate in the front and write on it just as I would a card.  Anyone have any great books they have gotten as a gift?  I loved getting It's Not Easy Being Green: And Other Things to Consider.

You said your mom gave you a signed copy of " Island of the Blue Dolphin"
as a gift. I read " Island of the Blue Dolphin" at least twice growing up.
I absolutely loved this book. I don't remember who the author is.
Would you tell me please who the author of the " Island of the Blue Dolphin" is. I think the book won a Pulitzer prize. When I was a child growing up I would go to our school library and deliberately look for books
who had won a Pulitzer prize. My reasoning was if the book won a prize
it must be good and interesting to read. I know you posted your comments
quite a few years ago, so I'm hoping you're still a member of Med help.
Books are wonderful. The ones you've read before are like old friends.
My husband and I have a huge collection of books between the two of
us . We both enjoy reading very much all kinds of books. Here's to a love

I loved getting Jean M. Auel's "Shelters of Stone" which is the fifth and final book of the series, "Clan of the Cave Bear."  I read her fourth book in 1990 and waited and waited for  Ms Auel to write this final chapter of that series which she finally did in 2001.  My mother surprised me by giving it to me for Xmas and I was So surprised because I didn't know it had finally come out.  I was thrilled!

I always do the first readers for little kids instead of cards.  They cost the same about $3.99 and get a lot more use.  I just stock up on the right siized envelopes cause opening the card is the funnest part.

my cousin gives me books ALL the time. i love it! she actually bought me my first hitchcock and poetry book. 2 of my favorite books. : o)

I have a signed copy of Island of the Blue Dolphin my mother gave me.  I think it is my favorite thing I've ever gotten.  Next up would be the  copy of Clive Barkers Abarat that my husband spent hours in line to have signed for me as a gift.  I worked at the library as a kid and my job was to look for damage in the older books.  I think my favorite smell is the pages of a book that has not been opened in a while.

When I was a child I got 'Little Women' I loved it I still do, I like all the Dickens books ...I get hooked on reading old Antique books.
