Drinking or neuralgia

I used to drink very heavy 10+ years ago but then stopped for a long time after I got a lesion in my brain stem, and then started doing it sensibly. I then stopped to look after my mum who became ill 3 years ago. Was doing fine until last year when I started getting shooting pains up and down the left side of my head which was diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia. I was discharged but symptoms seem to be getting worse. I'm nervous it's another lesion. 3 years without a drink. What's happening?
