mri question

Does a regular mri or a mri with contrast regardless if it is open or closed  always show a pituitary tumor or is their something different done to look in that area which if I understand correctly is under the brain? I had a mri last year but my doctor was looking for lesions associated with multiple sclerosis, not pituitary, does anybody know?
