Any 2020/2021 Granulomatous mastitis diagnosis?

Hello, so I was diagnosed with Granulomatous mastitis in January 2021 and haven't seen any recent post about it since 2018. I have currently on my 3rd drug treatment course to help with pain and size. Unfortunately this treatment is failing also and I have started to have nipple retraction on my left breast indicating the lumo is growing. I'm so undecided to go with a partial mastectomy because I'm in constant pain all day, I just took a medical leave from work because I am in that much pain. I am currently seeing a breast cancer doctor and she is recommended this be the last treatment course before we move forward with surgery. Just hoping there are other men/women today out there with the same issue, it's a depressing time in my life to see my body changing and I have no control of it.

Hello and welcome to the forum. We so appreciate your question but are sorry you have this concern. Granulomatous mastitis is typically a benign (non cancerous) inflammatory breast disease that is rare.  Were you breastfeeding before the diagnosis?  That's typically what it is in conjunction with. Here is some information to read about it:  https://rarediseases.info.nih.gov/diseases/13119/granulomatous-lobular-mastitis.  And a better article https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/granulomatous-mastitis  They do usually exaust all medications prior to going the route of full or partial masectomy and they only consider the surgery if the pain is such that you are not functioning.  I understand you are tryng to evaluate this point.   This condition of the breast is often confused with breast cancer but it's not the same.  What have you tried medication wise thus far?  I'm sure this is emotional and difficult and we too want you to get your life back, pain free.
