Aspirin and Breast Cancer Survivors

****Informational Post****

A study recently reviewed in the Journal Of Clincal Oncology revealed that BC survivors who take aspirin may live longer.

Women in the study who took aspirin two to five days a week (usually to help protect against heart attack or stroke) had the best results--a 60% reduced risk of their cancer spreading, and a 71% lower risk of BC death.

Other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), apparently also lowered the risks. Acetaminophen (Tylenol), which is not an NSAID, did not. These findings need to be confirmed in other clinical trials.

PLEASE NOTE: Women considering trying this should consult with their doctors first, because aspirin is associated with a higher risk of bleeding, especially in older adults and in those taking certain medications.

Sorry, typo--that was supposed to be "delay" in your treatment.

Sorry, I must have missed the post you did in February.

Yes, it is the same study, which was reported online 2/16/2010 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Here is a link to the Journal's abstract:

I didn't post a link yesterday because I had only read coverage of the study and its findings in some of the print medical newsletters to which I subscribe, so I'm glad that you provided one!

I'm sorry about the day in your treatment, and hope that things will get better...

Is this the same article as the one I posted here in February or another one, bb? (since you didn't leave a link?)

I thought it was interesting too but as you say, with some chemo you shouldn't use aspirin or Advil, etc, because of low blood counts. Speaking of which, they sent me home this week and told me I couldn't do my Abraxane because my WBC count was under 1000. last time around I always received neulasta to prevent such but it is so expensive, I guess not this time around.
