Asymmetry only on one view

Does anyone know the significance of asymmetry only seen on one view? My mammogram said asymmetry seen only on CC view (I guess this is top to bottom of breast) and not lateral or side view.

Does this provide any diagnostic information as far as potential malignancy?

Thanks.

Well, radiologist said nothing - they sent letter in mail. I had to go get report via medical records yesterday because my doc wouldn't return my calls. I had NO IDEA what report meant - very anxious.

Going for spot compression Friday and if unclear, go for ultrasound.

No masses, calcifications or anything else on report.

Been going through fibrocystic changes for past few years with accompanying breast pain. Finally going to breast specialist Monday to find out what's going on.

I tell you - no mammo center should send out a letter with no explanation - docs should be required to call patients with results other than normal. I don't think I slept for 3 nights! (Received letter Friday evening - mammo center closed over weekend). I have to honestly say the whole way it was handled is nothing short of cruel. I would never want another woman to go through that!

I know what you mean.........  my nurse just called me and said I needed to have spot compression because i had MASSES (plural) in right breast....  i about fell apart.  I called medical records department and I got a copy of it and it said the same thing it said in 2018, asymmetry in far posterior of the 1/3 right breast.  i just knew my life was over back in 2018 but it was just a cyst and it pushed down to nothing...   now this mammogram report i got today DID NOT SAY I HAD RIGHT MASSES.  it just said asymmetry.  I AM GOING TO GIVE THE NURSE HELL WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER......
Hi crazykp9.  Gosh, wording matters, doesn't it? The nurse added the word masses that didn't exist on the mamorgram report causing intense fear and anxiety.  I would most certainly let her know that this is troubling.  We can be called back in for a follow up second look after an abnormal mammogram and most of the time, it is not anything that is of concern after the second look.  I would agree that nursing staff should not amp up the situation.  I'm sorry that happened.  When is your follow up?

Hi!

What did your radiologist tell you?  I believe the radiologist uses all views and makes a diagnosis based on all views.  The only way a malignancy is identified is by a biopsy.  What was the recommendation based on your mammogram(s)?

Best wishes.  Let us have a little more information so that we can perhaps give you a better opinion, ok?

Warmly,

Chris
