Confusing results

I have an area in my lower breast, diagnosed ADH, excisional surgery scheduled next month.   MRI recently discovered an initial area upper breast that could not be seen well on ultrasound or mammogram.   MRI biopsy done a few days ago.  Doctor called last night & said that the tissue is stumping the pathologists at the Breast Cancer Center, so they are forwarding on to Dr. Page at Vanderbilt for further analyzing.   What can be so different that they wouldn't know at the breast care center, since they see it all the time.   They aren't ruling cancer in or out.  I don't get it.  What are the possibilities?  I assume that even if it isn't cancer they will want to remove the tissue.

Guess all you can do is wait - but don't be shy - call your dr. if
you don't hear in at least 10 days.

I do agree that it is unusual for a pathologist to be so puzzled
Hopefully - it's benign and is just an odd shaped lump

[[[[hugs]]] Let us know ok??

Thanks for responding.  I am understanding the ADH, but that is not what came back on the upper mass.  My doctor said that the pathologists at the cancer center couldn't explain and didn't know what it was...many looked at it (decent sized hospital) and that my results confused them.   I have a call into my gyno...she has been battling breast cancer for 14 yrs...I'm glad they sent it to Dr. Page....  guess I'm just wondering if they can't "label" it ADH, or in situ or anything....guess my imagination is running away with me.   I have been biopsied & mammogrammed and ultrasounded to death since May.

How was the ADH explained to you?

"Forwading to Dr. Page at Vanderbilt for further analyzing"

Most pathologists can analyze the "obvious" but maybe it
supercedes that situation? I've heard of Dr. Page and he is the
BEST there is according to what I've read. It is curious that
the pathologist is doing this - was your consent obtained first???
It should have been-

However, always remember- just because THEY chose Dr. Page
you have the right to request recuts of your tissues from the pathologist.

How? [request only cuts from the original tissues] and you can send the tissues to a lab of YOUR choice.  The lab should be independant of the original lab and the results sent
only to you. [outside labs will instruct patients on how to do this - either the lab will request the tissues or you can  - and  you then send to the outside lab by Fed Ex]

It's understandable that most patients won't do this unless there are extraordinary circumstances......and  because most patients rely on what their docs say and go with it.

Blessings....
