Fine pleomorphic calcifications

Hi there,
I'm 42, no kids and just had my first 3 D mammogram with the findings: irregular mass with associated fine pleomorphic calcifications and scattered fibroglandular densities on my left breast . And I had an ultrasound guided biopsy which was benign . There are still concerns due to the mammogram results and they are sending me now to a stereotactic biopsy . I have no family history of a breast cancer . I'm so worry about my life right now and I'm very scared of a bad result ! Is there a possibility that this diagnostic to be benign ?! And how big percentage ? Did you ever hear about benign results to this kind of diagnostic ?!
thank you so much !

My goodness you are surely much faster than me! LOL
I doubt that the thyroid nodule is related to your breast calcification. Breast calcification are not cancer themselves, but can indicate problematic cells in the surrounding breast tissue.
All the things you mentioned on your third post I also agree with ..So go for it and good luck!

You are welcome!
Well I am sure the Radiologist will perform a Stereotactic breast biopsy to obtain more tissue samples for analysis.Sometimes it is necessary to perform more than one biopsy using different techniques of imaging guidance.
In stereotactic breast biopsy,a special Mammography machine uses ionizing radiation to help guide the radiologist’s instruments to the site of the abnormal growth.
Try not to worry too much..things might turn out just fine.
Take care...

I didn't mention I have a benign thyroid nodule of a 4 cm, the thyroid still showed to be working normal . Do you think could be related the calcification I got in my breast with the thyroid problems ?! Or could I have Iodine deficiency ?!

I was asking my Dr today if I can get an MRI too and a blood tests to check the Vitamin D before the second biopsy and he said yes . And I'm going to have a second opinion to another radiologist for the mammogram I had .
Thanks so much for your encouragement !

Wow Zouzi, appreciate so much your fast respond !! I want to specify, the first biopsy I had it was performed with a 16-gauge biopsy needle and five core specimens were obtained and it showed the 1.3 X 1.3 X 0.9 cm mass .

Hi,
Usually an irregular mass is concerning ,but that’s not to say that it is malignant.
A Stereotactic Core needle biopsy may provide a more accurate analysis and diagnosis than fine needle aspiration because tissue is removed, rather than just cells. I think you are receiving excellent medical care because your Mammogram showed an irregular mass and your Radiologist just wants to make double sure. The Stereotactic Core biopsy procedure will provide a correct diagnosis.
BIRADS category 4,means that the mass is just suspicious ,but nothing more than that. Many breast abnormalities result in benign findings when biopsied and I hope the same for you too.
Best wishes and good luck!..
