Mammogram findings-

Hi, one year ago I had a core biopsy to remove what was called a complex mass. It was described as honeycomb in appearance and was Birads 4 on review of Ultrasound.  I was initially stunned and scared but it turned out benign. Thankful and blessed, now a year later, had my screening mammo and here we go again. Same breast. An ill-defined 1cm+  focal  (lesion?), many scattered fibroglandular densities within breast, lymphnode seen as well within the upper outer quadrant. Birads, 0 and they are calling me to come in for 90 degree lateral views, spot compressions and the ultrasound. I am having some anxiety because they blew me away last year with what they called a highly suspicious of malignancy regarding this same breast but the result was benign--yes I know there is no way to know until the biopsy is done but with what I have written here, does this scenario seem worse? Since it's the same breast and I have all these changes going on within it over 1 year, does my mammo reading indicate that I have a great chance of having breast cancer??? One week to wait and ponder. Anyone want to share info??

Hey, thanks for your reply. You know I thought the same thing. Maybe it's the same one. But I forgot to mention that I had a titanium clip (marker) placed at the time of the core biopsy for future mammo's (which also made me think this spot must be something they would be watching for years to come?) ...anyhow, on my report it mentions that my clip is visible from previous core biop. and that the new 'focal'? is located lateral to previous mass and it does refer to this one as 'a new ill-defined focal, 1cm+'.....so I was able to figure out this is a new area all together. What is the correlation of these scattered fibroglandular densities and the mention of visible lymphnodes to the new 'focal' and ofcourse, is this all part of something that started last year. I guess I'm tripping out a bit. Obviously left breast looks just fine. R breast has some issues....Thank you so much for responding.

Hi there.

From what you have posted, it seems to me that your previous lesion was not entirely removed at all and this new mammogram finding may just be the previous lesion.  A "core" biopsy only entails sampling with a larger bore needle and does not entail removal of the lump or nodule.  This mammogram finding may just be part of the previous lesion.  Nevertheless, if this is a new finding, then I agree with the further investigations that your doctors are doing.  I know that this must be hard but lesions like these should really be probed as probably malignant until proven otherwise.

I sure hope that everything will turn out fine.  Take care and God bless.
