Metastatic Breast Cancer

Dear doctors,
My mom had a mascotomy on 15 oct.2001 and the chemoterapies and
radioterapies followed by this operation. And then, one month ago,we learnt that tumor spreated to kidneys and livers and also
we find some small nodules on her body. Her oncologistcs quickly give her one week ago Xeloda and we are find from internet that
Coenzyme Q-10 is a helpful herbal medicine for her. Now, she is taking Xeloda and Coenzyme Q-10. Also, I am searcing every day on internet and I found two additional more herbal medicines. First one is beres drops and the second is noni juice. Do you suggest to her to take those medicines ? And finally is xeloda powerful medicine whicn will downsize the tumors ? We are really in a very bad condition.
Regards,
Serdar

COQ-10 is an antioxidant and could possibly counteract against the chemotherapy's effects.  My oncologist has advised me to avoid any antioxidants (including Vit C and E) and take only calcium and a multivitamin at the most.  Before taking anything over the counter, you must check with your oncologist to make sure you aren't doing anything to be counterproductive against the chemo.  You don't want to go through all that for nothing!

Dear Serdar:  There is insufficient scientific evidence to support the use of either coenzyme Q-10 or noni juice.  The evidence is anecdotal and while it may help - it's possible that it could be harmful.  Xeloda is an approved drug that will hopefully help your mother.  If this doesn't work, there are other drugs that may be helpful as well, depending on the drugs she received originally.
