I had my mammogram this morning. It was normal. The lump did not show up at all on the mammogram. So the radiologist decided he wanted me to wait and get an ultrasound, just to be on the safe side. They worked me in between scheduled patients but I only had to wait fifteen extra minutes or so....the tech did the ultrasound, which did show the lump, then the radiologist came in and did some of the ultrasound as well. He showed me the lump, which looked dark on the screen, but it was soft and able to be compressed almost totally flat beneath the ultrasound transducer. The tech thought it was a hematoma and the radiologist agreed with her. He told me it might take a long while for the hematoma to resolve, but that it would eventually go away. I do not need a biopsy, he saw nothing suspcious at all. He said to return in one year for a regular screening mammogram. So, no breast cancer!!! I am so relieved!!!! Thank you ladies for the prayers and hugs and support. I love all of you!! :)

My diagnostic mammogram is this Thursday morning. Please wish me luck and think positive thoughts. Thanks :)
Well the bruise continues to fade, and the lump is still there and still feels the same size. I thought that maybe as the bruise was resolving, the lump would as well. I had my hopes up about that so now I am worried that the lump isn't going away.....I and I am not checking the lump constantly because I know that can make it take longer to go away if it is due to the bruise....I am just so worried.....
Your last mammogram report done on the 18th of May,stated a BIRADS category 2, which is definitely a benign finding. This little lump, that you have now, could very well be a cyst or Fibroadenoma ( both benign findings) that could have developed, but you need to have this lump further evaluated, just to make sure.
I understand you being worried ,but this always happens to all of us, when we don't know what's really going on.
Soon you'll have your Mammogram done and I hope that everything will turn up just fine.
Please keep us posted when you'll receive your results.
I wish you the very best and good luck...
I had my breast exam yesterday and the dr. didn't think the lump felt like anything serious but to be on the safe side he ordered a diagnostic mammogram which is scheduled for the 15th of this month. I also asked him to pull up my mammogram report from May 18th. It said that it was Bi-Rad 2, which as he explained it is a normal mammogram but some things likes cysts were seen. Is that correct? When they send the letter with the results it just says normal and doesn't tell us our Bi-Rad category or explain anything.
The bruise on my breast is slowly fading, but the lump is not getting any smaller at all. The dr. was reassuring but I am still a bit worried and now it will be around the 21st of this month before I have my mammogram results....
I don't have any wonderful words of advice but a gal I work with came in with a whopper of a bruise above her right breast and it was also hard to the touch. She hadn't injured herself either. Hmmm...
I am not taking hormone replacement therapy. I had a hysterectomy when I was 50, but kept my ovaries. I think that I may still be cycling at times, although without periods it's hard to tell. I am unable to take hormones due to other health issues. I made an appt. with my primary care dr. for the day after tomorrow to have the lump checked out. I imagine he will order an ultrasound....thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
Hi again,
Since you are not menstruating, are you taking any hormone replacement therapy?because these hormones can worsen fibrocystic breast conditions.
Please have this lump checked out ,It could be a bump that caused a hematoma,as japdip suggested, but it could also be a cyst, Fibroadenoma or other problems that need to be properly evaluated by a medical professional.
All the best...
Hi zouzi,
I no longer menstruate....I am 54, But I have been told I had benign fibrocystic changes on previous mammograms....
First let me say that if the question limit is reached on the Expert Forum you should try again at a different time of day. The Forum is re-set every 24 hours to give those in various time zones a chance to post. Now to your bruise; your words "not that I'm aware of" are most important .. we often sustain a little bump and not even remember it. This does sound like a bruise and the lump you feel as a result is likely to be a hematoma (pooled blood within the tissue beneath the skin) but if it doesn't go away in a week or so then you might feel better if you have your Dr. ck. it out by examination and/or Ultrasound. Hematomas can take a considerable length of time to resolve themselves and I would suggest that you NOT keep palpating (feeling or poking) the area as this could delay the healing process. Take care ....
Hi,
This breast lump and bruise can be due to fibrocystic changes in the breast. Fragile blood vessels could cause a hematoma underneath the skin even with the lightest pressure. This may resolve after you end your menstruation.
I would suggest that this lump be seen by your doctor for evaluation if it doesn't disappear or becomes enlarged. An Ultrasound could be in order to find out the nature of this lump.
Best wishes...
