Urgetn Question Prior to Surgery: Help Please :)

Quick Info: Im 34, no cancer in family, less grandad and uncle on dad side and both were prostate cancer. So, when I was 22 (2001) had a CYST removed by surgery.  Benign, of course.  Now, found lump.  Went to GYN, referred to Oncologist, he said no cyst, but definite lump/mass.  Not moving like cyst.  So, having surgery on Wed  (Today is Friday)...... I have pain, so I'm guessing it;s not cancerous, butof course there's always a possibility.

What are the odds it could be cancer, since I have pain and no cancer in family.  I'm not a worry wart, just like to know different scenarios so I can be aware of possibilities, but I am not worried at all.  Just curious.  All the sites (Webmd, Mayo clinic, etc) don;t really answer this question... they avoid answering this, so I thought I'd ask people that actually went through it)... THANKS SO MUCH.

Your doctor sounds confident that it is not cancerous so the odds are well in your favor.

I forgot to mention that the doctor did an ultrasound and all he said was this wasn;t a cyst, it wasn't mobile.  It was a hard mass.  He offered a biopsy, but said I'd have to come back every often and be monitored.  I rather get it out and be done, unless there is some issue.  Because I really have enough other health problems to deal with....

Thanks for the info...... Appreciate it.

Hi,
Without some type of testing, such as a mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy or surgical excision,it's impossible for anyone to tell  exactly what this lump in your breast may represent.
All I can say is that the most common breast lumps,in your age group, could be cysts or Fibroadenomas,(both benign).Of course cancer is always a possibility, but it's rarely the case when pain is involved.A cyst is usually soft, fluid filled and movable, but sometimes it can feel like a solid lump if it is deeper inside the breast, making it more difficult to distinguish it from other kinds of breast lumps.Fibroadenomas on the other hand are solid, mobile within the breast, but not always. If it feels hard and immovable it doesn't prove malignancy, it could be a complicated fibroadenoma.
In any case, when a lump is solid, some type of biopsy or complete removal is often recommended to make sure that cancer is ruled out..
Hoping that your surgery will go well and that your path report will state benign findings.
All the best and good luck!
