Why doctor suggested ultrasound ?

My mammogram reports state that

1) The parenchyma of both breasts is dense.
2) There is no e/o microcalcification on either side
3) There is no e/o skin thickening/nipple retracture on either side
4) Axillary nodes are visualized bilaterally

Evaluation of both breasts with ultrasound suggested.

Kindly expalin my results. Do i need to go for ultrasound??

You should have the Ultrasound done as recommended. Dense breasts do interfere with the ability of mammogram to detect some abnormalities. The two tests "see" different things and are often used together for a complete study. Your results are good as far as they go but further evaluation should be done.     Regards .....

I am not a doctor but I know that #3 and #4 are good....no evidence of microcalcifications and no thickening or nipple retracture (going inward).  There are a lot of cancers that show up with calcifications.  Also, parenchyma I believe refers to the density or the breast.  As we get older the tissues are not as firm, etc.  It seems like it is describing that you have dense breasts.  I had the same statement on mine.  I also had visual axillary nodes on mine.  It is not uncommon.  It is best to get an ultrasound because your breasts are dense and sometimes mammograms miss things.  I would definitely get an ultrasound.  I just had mammo and ultrasound.  The mammo showed everything was stable but the ultrasound picked up on something and so I have to get a biopsy and then have a lumpectomy in the future.  It is best to just be sure since you are dense in the breast.
