Question about breast biopsy

My immediate family has passed away from various forms of cancer (Leukemia, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, bladder cancer etc....
A year ago, I went in for my yearly mammogram and they asked me to come back - did a sonogram and another mammogram.  Said they wanted to use this as a baseline and keep an eye on the area.  I went back a few weeks ago for another mammogram and the same thing happened.  This time they said they want to do a biopsy.  Trying not to overthink it but with my family history it's hard.
One of my concerns is why they didn't take a biopsy a year ago.  Is this common? The way they handled it?
What are the statistics on cancer?  I don't feel a lump but have had random deep pain for over a year.

So, here is the good news---  they are being proactive with you which is what you want.  I had a biopsy done when some suspicious things showed during my mammogram.  I did not have cancer, thank you dear Lord!  But that is a very scary situation.  Are you having a needle biopsy or a full biopsy done?  And I would ask them WHAT they are taking out to look at (they send it to a pathologist who examines it).

Has this happened yet?  Have you had the procedure?  How old are you by the way??  Try not to be too scared although I know that is easy for me to say.  hugs

I just had a core biopsy in 3 areas of my right breast and am lying here in bed. Prior to the biopsy decision I had a 2D 3D mammogram, ultrasound and breast MRI. They are only doing the biopsies because I have very dense breasts and they cannot clearly see my lumps on any of my films. It’s been 3 hours and I have been waiting for the pain to begin but so far I have none. I was scared of having the biopsy this morning, especially since I was having three. The Dr was done in 45 minutes, it did not hurt and the sound was like an electric toothbrush. I told the doctor that I wish there was material explaining the procedure which I rated on a scale of 10 in my head but it really was a 1 1/2.  They did tell me to take 2 Tylenol.  In my opinion, you need to get a breast mri first. I found this site because if I do have cancer I want to try cryoablation for treatment. Good luck to you.
