Bleeding open sore nipples

My nine year daughter who is already started to develop  but has not yet started her menses came to me with the complaint of burning nipples.  In the past week I have notice her breast have really began to stand out.   Where there were once two little lumps have turned into small breast over night.  Well,  as I dried her off after a shower, which made her nipples feel better, I noticed them, both nipples, to by almost rare, bleeding like open sores.  I called her PCP and was told to consult my breast surgeon in the morning.  Is this normal for pre puberty girls or should I really be overly concern and demand an appointment for the morning?

Hi there.

It is normal for pre-puberty girls to have some form of nipple discharge, but what you have described to be raw or bleeding sites in the nipples is unusual.

This can be caused by superficial infections of the glands of the nipples which eventually may indeed bleed.  If infection is suspected, then I believe a course of antibiotics will be warranted.

I suggest you push through with the surgeon consult and have this evaluated.  Regards and God bless.
