double mastectomy with reconstruction

hi my friends, butterfy, sue young, zouzi: Ali is writing, after 7 month of seeking treatment at a very famous hospital in NYC.
Remember? Back in 2009/2010 had a right breast lumpectomy, Stage 1 I was fine until I discover 3 marble size lymphs in the arm pit, (2011) of the affected breast, conclusion: Cancer had returned, had a double mastectomy, 8 rounds of Chemo(CMF),and EXPANDERS PLACE ON MY BOTH BREAST, AT THE TIME OF MASTECTOMY.The Expanders issue has been the more painful  experience. And after final exchange re-construction, I still feel as 2 stones are preassuring on my both breast, plus the elastic band feeling, I asked my plastic surgeon, he said, that in some cases, that feeling remains for life. Oh NO!!! I can not live with this torture.
If anybody from the forum can put a light in this issue, I will appreciate it.
Sorry I could not contact, you, girls, but I was not home.
God Bless you all, Alidi

Thanks so much Ziuzi:
This forum has been so good to me,
it happens that I had difficulties every step of the way.
I do not qualify myself as a hypochondriac, but the way I see it,
I had trouble with the Clinical Oncologist, that is over!!!!
I am home now, but I will fight this deacese, I should follow adjuvant treatment
I will find a doctor here, South Florida or I have my hopes going to Houston.
Stage 2 is not so bad, but I do not want to hear about metastasis.
Let me know, how you are doing, my friend.
God Bless!!

Hi alidi,

Of course I remember you!

You just visited us in February 2012, when you were trying to decide what kind of reconstruction to have, and not long before that, when you were going through chemo and deciding about having a port installed.

But I'm sure "the regulars" you mentioned would have remembered you from earlier times even if that were not the case.

I'm glad to hear you've finished your treatment and reconstruction, but sorry that you are having such discomfort!

I hope some of our members will have information and experiences to share with you, but beyond that, you might be able to obtain some help in the Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Expert Forum.

Best wishes,
bluebutterfly

Hi Ali, so good to hear from you,but sorry that you have so much pain after your mastectomy and reconstruction!
You could ask your surgeon for a referral to a pain management specialist. There may be some more effective pain medications for you to take. Also ask if topical anesthetics or even intercostal nerve blocks may be of help in getting you through this difficult phase..I have read that some women were prescribed Valium that proved to be very effective at relieving the musculoskeletal discomfort associated with expanders.
If this pain does not subside or worsen, make sure that there isn't some other cause, such as infection or hematoma.
As always wishing you all the best my friend! :)
