white head on nipple?

I am 64 yr female, long past menopause.  Sudden appearance of white hard nodule on end of left nipple 3 weeks ago.  I can't feel any other abnormality in self exam.  Aerola seems okay but nodule keeps nipple erect.  No drainage, etc.  Have tried warm compresses, bactiracin topical ointment without effect.  I was never pregnant.  Last mammogram 2 years ago, just moderately dense tissue....I have very small breasts!  Left upper outer quadrant seems a little slack, not a true retraction, and I am right handed so right breast always feels bigger all around.

Working full time makes getting doctor appts. really difficult.  Anyone know how long I should wait to see doctor?  Is this a common finding in postmenopausal women?  Can't find any pics on internet that show this.  No other areas on nipple, just this white hard round nodule in center.

Thanks for your thoughts.  Ironically 2 days ago it disappeared.  If it happens again, I'll see a doc.  Just weird, but I will keep an eye on the area.

First let me apologize for the delay in answering ... missed your post somehow. If this truly appears to be a pimple then whatever you would normally do to bring about a rupture of it would seem reasonable. I don't think it has anything to do with being post-menopausal. Are you sure it isn't a hardened bit of drainage from the nipple; although with warm compresses I would think it would have disolved. I doubt any ointment would have much effect on it from your description. I would make an appointment as soon as you are able (considering your work, etc.) to have it checked out although I can't see anything terribly serious with this type of symptom but it deserves some attention from your Physician to be sure.   Sorry again about the delay .... Take care and I'd be very interested to know what you find out from the Dr.
