angiomyolipoma

I just had a CT scan of my lungs that also showed a left renal mass 25 mm with a somewhat thickened wall.   This may contain nomicroscopic fat therefore suggesting a diagnosis of an angiomyolipoma.   What does this mean?  Do I have kidney cancer?   I am going to a nephrologist in two about 2 weeks.   Should I try to get in sooner?   Is 25 mm a large mass?

Hi Mimi,
Angiomyolipoma is a benign renal tumor.  It contains fat, vascular, and smooth muscle elements.  Most cases are asymptomatic and are an incidental finding when a diagnostic examination was performed for another indication.  Kidney cancer is considered as one of the differential diagnoses for a tumor in the kidney.
I agree with your planned consult with a nephrologist.  If you are not having any symptoms, you can wait for your appointment.  If not, you should see your doctor as soon as possible.
Take care.
