question about anti freeze

Im just curious and nervous but I was washing my window with the wipers and anti freeze and there was a block of ice blocking so I took the block of ice off and there was anti freeze on the ice but I threw the block of ice and if I did get anti freeze on my hand and touched my mouth a few minutes after or rubbed my eye and it got in my system then will that cause any type of cancer or problems with me and kill me? And if I scractehd my head with that hand then will it cause hairloss or permanent hairloss?? Im really scared and nervous.

Hi there,

I'm an industrial chemist and can reassure you that you're fine. You would need to swallow anti-freeze to die. In terms of cancer, generally repeated exposures are what is a problem not a one off touching. Think of smoking. Smoking causes cancer but people are smoking many many times every day for years and years. And even then, only some of them get cancer.

Take care. If you find yourself worrying about things like this regularly consider seeing a doctor about anxiety.
