Can I just post comments here about managing MVD?

This is Joan. I've been waiting for some changes here at the group so we could just comment without having to ask a question. I sometimes don't have questions but certainly want to share my discoveries I've made along my MVD journey. The item that I want to address here is mobility. This was brought to mind by one of the group's members who was going to a game and knew she may have problems climbing to the seats. I had to do three things that would enable me to get out of the house. 1.) Go on line to DMV and get a placard form and have doctor complete it for me. Steps to and from any store, clinic, or school is impossible without being able to use handicap parking.
2.) Getting smart contacting game/concert venues for handicap seating/access. Getting stuck and having to be escorted out the back private entrance/exit for the circus performers was not pleasant. Because I don't look handicapped doesn't mean I'm not!  Looks from half dressed clowns is wierd. My entrance to circus seats/steps were fine, but you had to exit UP several sets of steps. 3.) Scooters. I first started using the store ones. Walking about shopping, reaching, carrying are too many layers of exertion for me. I frequently got stuck walking at the grocery store mid-way at the wines and had to pretend to read the labels as I waited for the SOB to subside. I was then fortunate to get a used scooter. I can't lift the thing, even in pieces, but it does allow me to get out and about. Hope everyone is having a good day.

You're a hoot! BUT you have to learn NOT to carry groceries;have a bag boy help you.I only shop for non-perishables, leaving the stuff in trunk for hubby to unload at home.A half gallon of milk is heavy for me right now.
For events just call ahead and request handicap seating. A minimal extra charge of a few dollars usually is charged.
MVD is a disability depending on presenting symptoms,CP and SOB are good ones after only walking a few steps! I've had a placard for 1 1/2 years, first starting with a temp then got a permanent one. The portable placard instead of a license plate allows you to use it when others are driving. You have to get the permit and a doctor signs off on the permit; they are the last to think about it as a assistive device.
My friend's (doctor) nurse had to quit her job due to MVD and she's just in her 40s. Have a good day. Joan.

Those are good suggestions. Do you find it difficult to find seating at events or do you have to call ahead to reserve a  lower level spot?

I didn't realize that MVD was considered a disability. I haven't done any homework about parking permits. I just assumed a doctor would make the decision and apply as they did in my parents case.

Isn't it fun to be carrying a bag of groceries out to the car only to have sudden chest pain and you have to stop in your tracks and wait till it goes away? People don't appreciate your body getting in their way.
