This is Joan. I've been waiting for some changes here at the group so we could just comment without having to ask a question. I sometimes don't have questions but certainly want to share my discoveries I've made along my MVD journey. The item that I want to address here is mobility. This was brought to mind by one of the group's members who was going to a game and knew she may have problems climbing to the seats. I had to do three things that would enable me to get out of the house. 1.) Go on line to DMV and get a placard form and have doctor complete it for me. Steps to and from any store, clinic, or school is impossible without being able to use handicap parking.
2.) Getting smart contacting game/concert venues for handicap seating/access. Getting stuck and having to be escorted out the back private entrance/exit for the circus performers was not pleasant. Because I don't look handicapped doesn't mean I'm not! Looks from half dressed clowns is wierd. My entrance to circus seats/steps were fine, but you had to exit UP several sets of steps. 3.) Scooters. I first started using the store ones. Walking about shopping, reaching, carrying are too many layers of exertion for me. I frequently got stuck walking at the grocery store mid-way at the wines and had to pretend to read the labels as I waited for the SOB to subside. I was then fortunate to get a used scooter. I can't lift the thing, even in pieces, but it does allow me to get out and about. Hope everyone is having a good day.
