robotic bypass

July 2007 my husband had his artery blocked.  He went in and they put 2 stents there.  In April 2008 he had to come in again because the  tissue grow and the Dr. put a stent inside of the old stent. The cardiologist who treated him said if the tissue grow again he will have the open heart bypass.  Do I have any option beside open heart bypass?  I heard about a robotic bypass, is there anyone can provide me with this information in Virginia.  I know that in NOVA is not doing this kind of robotic bypass due to it's not a FDA approval.  I also heard that it's has to be a good suitable candidate for this robotic bypass.

Great question,
Minimally invasive coronary bypass is a good option in select patients depending on the severity of the blockages and the locations. You outline nicely your options for revascularization which include angioplasy and stenting, traditional open bypas or a minimally invasive approach including robotic assisted.  It is not widely performed and I would recommend traveling to a center of excellence. I have attached a link to information about our program at The University of Pennsylvania. It is recognized as one of the best and I would refer you to Dr Woo. I would encourage you to proceed as you are by investigating your options thoroughly in advance. Good luck
