Hi, I am gonna guess that your cat's name is Sue???  LOL  CML guessed it was Lucy!  Who's right?  =)

Anyway, no your cat will not be put to sleep.  She sounds like she's doing well, besides the blood in her eye.  She's eating and drinking decent and hopefully her potty habits are normal, too.

You do need to bring your cat(Lucy?)  to the vet ASAP.  Seriously, today!  Call the vet clinic and explain the situation and stress to the receptionist that there is blood in your cats eye.  If they give you a problem, ask to speak to a vet tech.  THEY will know that your cat needs to be seen ASAP.

I know from experience that the blood in the eye is a symptom of VERY high blood pressure.  My 17 yr old cat had blood in one eye and it scared the poop out of me.  She winded up losing vision in that eye because I didn't catch it in time.  I do NOT want this to happen to your cat.  Please get her in today.  They will check her blood pressure(at the base of the tail).  If they find that it is high, they will put her on an inexpensive blood pressure drug called Enalapril.

Time is of the essence!!!!

Good luck

Hi Sue,

Am I correct in assuming your babies name is Lucy?

First of all no vet can make you put a cat down. That decision is yours only. Now he may suggest that it might be best for her if her condition was to keep her in pain and there was nothing he could do for her, but you and Lucy are the ones that count.

Let's not jump the gun here. If she is still eating and drinking she wants to stay with you. The eye seems like something that could be corrected, but you have to get to the vet to find out.

Once you have seen the vet you and Lucy will know more about her situation.
So Please see your vet. You do not want Lucy to be in pain do you?

Please let us know what the vet has to say, K?

Wishing you both the best outcome.

Hi SueKittyLucy,

If your cat's eye is red, in my opinion, she needs to be seen by a vet.
As the owner of the cat, you and the vet would make the decision to
put your cat to sleep. Sixteen years is older for a cat, but not that old
and if she is eating and drinking fine, she's basically healthy except
for her eye which you says is red.  There are such things as antibiotic
eye drops but these must be prescribed by a vet and to do this, the
vet needs to examine your cat's eyes. Your vet can't just put your
cat to sleep without your agreement. I know this because I had to
put two of my darling fur babies to sleep due to cancer and in both
cases they had to have my permission in order to do that.
I wish you and your kitty well. Please take your fur baby to be seen
by a vet asap.     Eve (   mother of Sammy the nine year old cat )
