Cat licking/biting off fur in one spot?

Recently, I noticed that my 10 month of cat has licked/chewed off fur in one particular spot. The spot doesn't seem to be bothering him much, he's just as playful and sweet as always. Whenever I touch it, he doesn't jerk away like it hurts or anything. I only noticed the spot just yesterday, and it wasn't very big. Today, however, I noticed that it was a bit bigger. I don't know if it's dry skin, or he maybe got bitten by something? He's an inside cat, never goes outside. He's seemed like he's been a bit itchy as of late. We've already checked for fleas and ticks, and that's not the case. We have two other cats and two dogs, and none of them seem to be having an issue like that. I'm getting a bit worried since it's gotten bigger. There hasn't been any drastic changes in his diet, food, litter, lifestyle, nothing like that. If anyone's got any ideas or suggestions for what to do, I'd really appreciate it. I'm just not sure if this is something he needs to be taken to the vet for.

Attached is a picture of the patch of fur that he's chewed away. I know it's a little blurry, it was hard to get him to sit still long enough to get a good picture. It feels kind of dry and scabbed, but I think that might be because he's been chewing on it.

well its good the litter you are using is non scented but perhaps changing the brand is worth a try, also the type of food he is eating...especially if this is a dry food, they are so loaded in chemicals/preservatives/grains that he could be sensitive to anyone or all of these.
Bug bites usually don't affect a cat like his coat shows, Nor dust.

I will send you a site abt allergies, this is just for info on what is going on with the itching I DO NOT agree with feeding the recommended so called Veterinary 'hypoallergenic' diets...these are crap.

To try a substitute diet, buy a good NO grain type of canned food from a good pet store...try a novel protien, meaning one that your kitty hasn't eaten before...if he is on chicken try beef or venison, chicken is also a huge culprit in allergies because it is the common base of nearly ALL pet foods. I had to switch one of mine to fish for awhile, but fish isn't good to feed long term...but it may be necessary for a trial period if you can't get him to eat something other than chicken....

Opus, I just read over the reply you had posted before. I'm honestly not quite sure what's causing the issue. I am using an Arm and Hammer brand of kitty litter. It's unscented, but it's considered mega because I have three cats. The food that he's been eating is Purina's Kit & Kaboodle. The oldest cat has been eating this food for years (and using the same litter), and we've never had an issue with her. I understand that allergies can adapt over time. He's never exposed to any kind of chemicals; we keep all that stuff tucked away in closed and locked cabinets. He likes to sit on the windowsill and look out into the backyard. It's kind of dusty from dirt storms... could that be it? Maybe a bug bite?

hi roni, I will just send a link to another post I replied to recently...with some info. this is very likely an allergic reaction to food or something in the environment, doesn't mean that anything was recently changed..all allergies build up over time from constant exposure. Post again I am out for awhile and will get back to u asap....
