Cat sick 2 weeks after vaccine

Hi I took my cat to the vet two weeks ago. She was given a rabies and distemper.  She was sore for a while and moved slowly. She seemed to begin to feel better and up until yesterday was moving around fast again.

Yesterday she threw up, it was very liquid, I didn't think much about it, thought maybe she had a hairball.
She did it again, when I blotted it I noticed it was pink on the white napkin, looked like kool aid.  I mentioned to my husband in case she had gotten in to something.  The next time she threw up we could see that it was blood.

After that she dry heaved and it was clear.  She actually allowed me to pick her up which is not something she does before struggling to get down.  She's not a lap cat :)

This morning, she did not run to me as soon as I started moving. She is laying on the couch, which isn't unusual except she normally sleeps with us. Normally by now she is pestering me for food or treats.

I would appreciate any input
Dee

Dee, I understand.  When our pets are ill, it is draining.

As far as the treats go, I wanted to make sure you weren't feeding her 'Temptations'.  There seems to be a connection to them and renal failure.  We fed those to Jade for many yrs, and as soon as we stopped, her vomiting became less frequent, although to this day, I wonder if it contributed to her Renal Failure!!

I'm afraid I'm not a good person to ask which treat is better than the other, because first, I am not very familiar with treats, and second, I believe they put unwanted weight on kitty.  Just my opinion. :)

Anyone else have a treat suggestion for Dee?

Hey Dee...I was away from the house for a couple hrs, and was hoping I would come back to a positive update.  Yay, that's great she is showing interest in food, and even jumping on the bed!!

I'm sure you will, but do keep an eye out for blood if she vomits again.  I have no idea what it might be a clear sign of, but it definitely isn't normal.  I was thinking maybe stomach ulcers like Jade had, although Jade never vomited blood and she vomited a LOT.

How old is your kitty?  Please tell me what brand of treats you are giving her?

I share your relief, Dee. :)  Keep us updated...

Hi Dee...please forgive me, I'm just seeing your post.  I did a search on distemper and rabies vacs.  It looks like a reaction to the rabies can occur up to 45days.  Of course, this could be something totally unrelated to the vacs.  Your description has the ring of poisoning.

I know funds are tight...and I know you would of gone if you were able...but all I can recommend is getting your kitty to an ER vet ASAP.

You've done everything right.  Tuna is perfect in an emergency situation.  I think the crying and hiding may be more due to the fact, she is feeling so bad.

I'm so sorry, this doesn't sound good.  Hugs xo

Thank you AppleBR, she is so much better! She's eating drinking, acting like her self. I learned a lot through this experience. Now I have names of Emergency Rooms for animals. Thank you again!

You're so right. I was desperate. We've used Temptations in the past. I would like to know if that's why our 7 year old cat suffered with kidney failure. I was able to give him fluids under his skin. I wonder about the vomiting before this past weekend. I had gotten to only giving her a few daily because of this. My neighbor had same problems with her cat till she switched to hair ball type
I appreciate you sharing your experience

Hi there! I was using IAMS treats for hairballs. I just bought yesterday.. when I couldn't find a Vet open yesterday I went to the store for wet food, tuna, anything to get fluids in her. Now that she has improved I've stopped the treats. Thanks so much. We are watching her very closely. She is now much better, keeping food and water down. We've never had this happen with her in 6 years we've had her. She was abandoned, the vet thinks ,2 to 4 years old. Thanks again, I'm so relieved.

Jada, thank you so much. I was printing out directions to an ER Vet when I heard her eating. Be still my heart. Then she ate not, drank water. I'm watching her very carefully. She hasn't vomited again, famous last words. As long as I see improvement we'll stay here for now. Now she is back to begging for treats. I may call her Vet when they reopen tomorrow at 7. Nothing was open, I called every Vet in area til I found the ER. Thank you so much!

I think my cat may be dying. This is not the usual hair ball, this is a convulsion of her stomach. I have tried to tempt her with all of her favorite food, she might smell it but doesn't eat. I even tried tuna which I have heard isn't good but I am trying to get some fluids in her. I have read that fluids are essential for a cat. They can't go more than a couple days without water. They aren't like us.
When she sees me she cries and hides, almost as if she knows I am thinking of the Vet. My son and husband have been able to pet her a little.
I hope everyone is have a nice Memorial Weekend

Now it appears she is vomiting her bile. I am trying to get her to come out from under the bed to see if she would eat her favorite yogurt.
Of course this is happening on a weekend.
Thanks again, D
