Mr. Hank did just eat a bite or two (lick or two) of chicken baby food! That's the first he's eaten today. Yay!
It'll take a good while, but it will get easier...little by little. We had to put Jade down a little over a year ago. We did an in-home euthanasia. It was both the best thing and the worst thing we ever had to do. I still cry over her, but those times have become less and less. I have her photos rotating on my screen saver, so I see her all the time. It's helped. I called her 'cutie', and every now and then I can't help but say out loud, 'cutie!!!!!!!!!', when I see a photo I especially like...which is most of them. :)
Oh my. Now I'm crying too. CML with her way with words, and you're final post. *sob*
I am so very sorry for your loss. RIP Mr Hank. He now joins all the MedHelp kitties who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge. Mr Hank is in excellent company if I may say so myself.
You know the Rainbow Bridge poem, right? I'll copy it for you if not. If you do know it, it's worth posting, as it never gets old. I hope it will give you comfort. Hugs to you~
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I've read your comment three times this morning, CML. I'm so grief stricken and regretful for some of my choices, but your words really reached my heart. I am convinced he was telling us that he was going. We both, my husband and I, had "moments" with him over the last three weeks, starting on the day that we think his clots started. We have a photo from him on that day, and if you look closely enough, you can see the haze over his eye that it took a solid week to really see. That was the day he locked eyes with my husband and seemed to say that everything would be okay. Saturday night, the night before he passed, he staggered to the door between the bedroom and bathroom (where he was sleeping in the walk-in closet in between), and he looked over at us in bed. He was so calm and composed. He hadn't sat up in hours until that point. But he just sat there, pretty as you please, and watched us for 10 minutes or so, as we went to sleep. It was like he wanted to remember us that way and tell us that he understood. (Obviously, I'm weeping right now remembering him.)
I'm working on making peace with the decision to keep him at the vet's for three days. I guess it's easy to think that way in retrospect, but you're right. We couldn't do anything more for him at home. He knew he was a loved little kit. He was the best, brightest little soul, and I'll miss him so much.
I honestly didn't realize how much comfort a stranger's words would give me, so thank you for taking the time.
I am so sorry to read this :( you did all you were able to do dear this wasn't your fault, the Vets should have done more extensive testing!!! RIP little boy, you were well loved
Hi all:
Thanks for your support. We lost him tonight, about 24 hours from picking him up at the vet's from his 3-day stay. The emergency vet said he had a series of blood clots, one of which caused the cloudy eye. I'm just heartbroken. They had sedated him to put in a feeding tube when he went into cardiac arrest. I can't help but think that I did something wrong in trying to help him. I know his vet stay took it out of him, because he came home tired and withdrawn. Now I have this awful guilt, and my little guy is gone.
Lesson learned on the cloudy eye: Get more than one opinion and make SURE your vet runs tests.
Hi honey...I've been keeping up with your thread. With the dust being predominately on his head this time...and the dilated pupil...I'm wondering if this could be a head injury...? Good he's staying several days at the vet.
Just wanted to lend my support. I'll be praying for a positive update. Hugs to you~
Gosh---I sure hope they find out what is up with Mr. Hank. See our MAMMA GUT works. You knew something else was going on and thank God you kept up with the vet and making them test more. Bet they will listen to you now.
My Only concern now is Mr. Hank---I hope he will be ok--PLease let us know.
It is a relief that he is in the hands of the vet clinic__I think! Hopefully they will be more vigilant .
Try and Have a good Thanksgiving---he is in the best place for emergencies, if they happen. Hope they are staffed on Holidays.

Update time! His vet appt was at 3:30, but we called and got him in at 11:30 because he was NOT doing well. She sent out tests for FIV and Feline Leukemia. She also suspects pancreatitis on top of the eye infection. The vet did say that his liver and kidneys were doing just fine, so that's good news! Sub-q fluids and nutrition supplementation, and he's staying over though Friday. My gut was right that it was more serious than uveitis. Thanks for the help!
Hi Blue,
If you want sub-Q hydration you TELL them that is what you want . Do not let them push it off. Also you need to let them know you think there might be something else going on and you need more diagnostic tests done---THEY WORK FOR YOU!!!!!
You should feel 100% ok with how well they took care of you and your baby when you leave their practice. If not you should get a new vet. Techs should have NO say in what you should do , ask,or suggest---The vet is the only one you will listen to
You should not feel so unsure as to cry for fear your baby is not getting the right treatment..
I am praying for you and Mr. Hank and hope to hear good news. Keep us posted, K?

I see it! I've been having trouble posting on here, too, which is why there's always a big delay in response. I thought it was just my computer!
Called the emergency vet who said that what our doctor is doing is the right course of action, but we could bring him in if we wanted. I was most concerned about giving him Baytrin if he's dehydrated, so I syringe fed him little drops of water last night and this morning.
He *does* seem to be perking up a bit. He took a few drinks of water on his own an hour ago, and I cried and cried.
I do feel like our vet is doing the least amount of diagnostic work. He goes back tomorrow for a check up, and I hope she gives him sub-q fluids so I don't have to worry as much about the dehydration. I was a little over the vet techs who didn't want to entertain my many questions about the Baytrin.
My cat mom gut says it's more than an eye infection, but at least he's showing a bit of interest in water now. Trying to be optimistic!
Retread your post, the Vet didn't even do a dye test to be sure there wasn't something in the eye??
Or a swab test for bacteria?
Meant to ask is the eye showing any improvement at all????
Did they test his BP or do blood work for CRF??? ...not eating is a symptom of CRF, like I said my cat was repeatedly and incorrectly treated for uveitis too
Did he just stop eating after beginning the antibiotic or before? If it was caused by the med he should feel like eating by today...otherwise it's not the cause
3mls of water isn't very much, this is the 3rd day without food and water??? That's not good. Tempt him with tuna or salmon, if he doesn't get eating/ drinking by tomorrow you'll have to start assist feeding, OR get him into a good Vet that will do these tests as well as administer IV therapy
Hi guys:
So the vet diagnosed it as uveitis on Saturday. Gave him a cortisone shot, eye drops (NeoDexaPro?) and Clavamox. He didn't eat or drink all day yesterday, so I called the emergency vet, who said to stop the Clavamox until he eats again. He's still not eating (it's Monday morning, saw the vet 11 a.m. Saturday), and so I called our regular vet who wants to switch him to BayTrin. I just researched the med a bit, and what I found scares me. The vet didn't test anything but his pupil function. He doesn't have a fever, but I'm afraid he's going to dehydrate. I did syringe feed him 3mil water last night and this morning.
Thanks for your thoughts. Hankee appreciates the care, and his mama is terrified!
Hi Blue,
How is kitty after the vet visit? Could you keep us posted, please?
Thanks,
CML
Oh I hope he is much better by morning, get his blood pressure tested(if they have a monitor, some clinics don't) and his kidney function tested to while there, high blood pressure can be a result of CRF.....don't want to scare you, but if your like me....we want to be sure. Best of luck, let us know
Thanks, Opus. He wouldn't eat his chicken treats--which he LOVES--so I scheduled a vet appointment for 11:00 tomorrow morning. I'll cancel if he's feeling better. The vet tech was very, "Well, if he's getting better..." but I'm a nervous wreck thinking about him not feeling well. Thanks so much for your feedback.
He likely just got some dust or debris in the eye than pawed at it enough to become red, this would explain some discharge too, however the dilation is confusing.....
Cloudiness and redness can also be a sign of high blood pressure, the pressure builds up in the eye or eyes, this happened to my older kitty, by the time this got properly diagnosed the eye was badly damaged and had to be removed. This was years ago and sorry but I can't remember if the eye was also dilated or not...not that I recall, a dilated eye usually indicates some sort of head trauma
I would suggest a vet visit, if there was a good one close by. It took a specialist to finally diagnos my boy, my own vet kept treating him for an eye infection....but redness and weeping kept getting worse
Good luck, hope he continues to improve for you...let us now ok
