Could carpet freshener be toxic to a cat?

My cat will turn 19 years old next week. Last weekend he was vomiting and not eating as well as acting confused; like he didn't know where he was. His pupils look dilated. Then he rallied and seemed to be getting over what was bothering him. Now this weekend, he is also not eating and although I have not seen evidence of vomiting, he is more lethargic, is seeking heat sources (he keeps wanting to lay on my warm VCR) and sits hunched up. All I can think of is that I sprayed a liquid carpet freshener around just before he exhibited this first symptoms. He may have walked where it was an then licked his paws or may have inhaled fumes. I looked at the container and the only thing that seemed chemically suspicious was glutaraldehyde. There was no warning on the container.  I did call my vet to make an appointment, but the first availability is in two weeks.

Due to kitty's age, I would take him to an emergency vet if I were you.  If you can.  This certainly could be due to the carpet freshener, but who knows.  Can you put him in another room?  Get him away from the chemicals; see how he reacts?  But really, emergency vet!
