Do cats take human pills by accident ?

Somebody in my apartment has a habit of dropping pills on the carpet including opioid analgesics like Vicodin, muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety pills, etc. and I'm worried that my cats may eat them by accident and get sick or die. Although most of these pills probably don't taste that good, I think a cat may swallow a pill that has gotten stuck to his tongue by accident because he cannot spit it out. Please let me know if this is something I should worry about.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion you may have.

"somebody" in your apt needs to be alot more careful!! Your pet could get poisoned and you'd have no way of knowing with what! Vicodin normally has Tylenol in it which (correct me if I'm wrong someone) is toxic to cats. I think a cat would be more likely to smack a pill around like a toy but these pills could be a choking hazard as well as a poison issue. Please tell your room mate to be MUCH more careful!

given the weight of the cat and the strength of these meds...I would be pretty sure one tablet would fatally poison or do unrepairable damage to kittys organs.........care needs to be taken.

I never thought my cat would eat a pill just from the taste alone, but thank you for pointing out it could get stuck on her tongue.  I never thought of that!

I don't know what to suggest as far as the person dropping their meds.  That combo of pills will make a person screwed up and they likely don't realize they're dropping them.  All I can suggest to you is be vigilant and scan the carpet often.

Cats may eat just about anything by accident. I know my silly Dillan acts like a little vaccum all around the house. My other cat is more cautious. So it really depends on the animal, I think.  I would talk to that person and tell them to stop dropping pills on the floor or carpet. For your cat's safety. And.....It's gross...
