Does anyone out there have experience dealing with hyperthyroidism in cats?

I have recently had one of my cats diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He has gone stone deaf, and I have no idea why this just recently popped up. He is only 9 years old. He had dental work done last fall at the vets. They pulled his two top canine teeth, and he has been acting strange becuz of that, then I noticed that it's like he can't hear anything. I have no experience with this at all.
